8.31.12 WOMEN'S SOCCER: Gearhart Provides Game-winner over Roberts Wesleyan

Women's Soccer, 2012-08-31

Jessica Gearhart (Fr., 5-9, Wadsworth, OH/HS) started her college career on an excellent note as she scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan at Milazzo Field. Walsh (1-0) has now defeated the Redhawks (0-1) three consecutive times dating back to last season, including two straight 1-0 decisions.

The Cavaliers controlled the ball for the majority of the game and outshot the Redhawks 18-7 overall and 8-3 in shots on goal. Despite this, Roberts Wesleyan were able to keep the game scoreless until just over five minutes to play in the game. At that point, Rachel Rucker (Jr., 5-5, Uniontown, OH/Lake) picked up a loose ball in the box and centered it to Gearhart who put the ball in the left corner of the goal with 5:12 remaining.

Taylor Stano (Fr., 5-7, Massillon, OH/Jackson) and Michaella Stucky (Fr., 5-5, Medina, OH/HS) each played a half for the combined shutout. Stano made two saves and Stucky added one.

Walsh is off until Wednesday when the Cavs play in their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Malone. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
