9.11 MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Cavaliers Finish Second in Ric Sayre Invitational
Men's Cross Country, 2010-09-11
The Walsh University men's cross country team opened the season with a second place finish in the annual Ric Sayre Invitational. Mount Union won the event by placing five runners in the top seven. The Cavs finished ahead of John Carroll, Roberts Wesleyan, Hiram, and Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Justin Eddy (Fr., Perry, OH/HS) paced the Cavs with a third-place overall finish with a time of 26:18.03. Jordan Groubert (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) followed him with ninth-place finish with a time of 25:45.25. Dan Opeka (Jr., Louisville, OH/St. Thomas) crossed the finish line next for Walsh at the 27:20.43 mark for 15th overall. The fourth and fifth place runners as well as the two alternates finished as a pack in order. Brandon Wollenberg (So., Canton, OH/Perry) was fourth for Walsh and finished at 27:29.17, just in front of Travis LeVan (Fr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) by .2 seconds. Dan Bauman (Jr., Paris, OH/St. Thoams) trailed right behind them and crossed at 27:37.94 and Matt Roshak (Fr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) finished a split second after at 27:38.29.
The Walsh thinclads return to action Friday, Sept. 17 at the National Catholic Meet at the University of Notre Dame (IN) with a start time of 3:30 p.m.
