9.11 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Cavs Finish Third In Season Opener
Women's Cross Country, 2010-09-11
Walsh University women's cross country team opened the season and placed third as a team in the annual Ric Sayre Invitational Saturday morning. John Carroll won the event with a low score of 28. Mount Union finished second with 56, 40 points ahead of the Cavs. Walsh finished ahead of Ursuline College, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Roberts Wesleyan, Cuyahoga, and Hiram.
Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) led the Cavaliers pack with a fifth-place finish and a time of 19:29.63. Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) finished second for the Cavs and 16th overall with a time of 20:19.80. Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) crossed the finish line next for Walsh and finished 23rd overall with a time of 20:37.56. Kaley Charek (Fr., Clinton, OH/Green) followed with a time of 20:42.84, good for 25th overall and 24th in the team competition. Rounding out the top five Walsh finishers was Megan Case (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) in 33rd overall and 28th in the team competition with a time of 20:57.11.
Alternates for Walsh were Rachelle Miller (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) in 37th overall with a time of 21:08.51 and Ashley Demsey (Sr., Parma, OH/Padua Franciscan) right behind in 38th overall with a time of 21:12.38.
The Cavaliers will next run in the National Catholic Meet at the University of Notre Dame (IN) on Friday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
