Women's Soccer, 2012-09-12

The second NCSAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Women’s Midwest poll has been released and has Walsh University currently ranked No. 9 following a pair of wins last week. The Cavaliers (3-0) recorded a 2-0 victory at rival Malone last Wednesday and followed up with a 1-0 win at Ursuline on Saturday.

Against the Pioneers, Erin Peskura (Fr., 5-4, Strongsville, OH/HS) scored the first and deciding goal on a cross from Gina Pinzone (Sr., 5-6, Cleveland, OH/Padua Franciscan) in the 59th minute. Jessie Gearhart (Fr., 5-9, Wadsworth, OH/HS) finished the afternoon off with the second goal, her second of the year, on an assist from Carley Adams (Sr., 5-8, Louisville, OH/HS) with only a second remaining on the clock. In the defeat of the Arrows, Emily Durina (Fr., 5-6, Youngstown, OH/Austintown Fitch) was able to slip the ball past the goalie on an assist from Carley Adams (Sr., 5-8, Louisville, OH/HS) in the 51stminute.

The Cavs defense is also doing well in the early seasons as all three wins have been shutouts. Goalkeepers Taylor Stano (Fr., 5-7, Massillon, OH/Jackson) and Michaella Stucky (Fr., 5-5, Medina, OH/HS) combined for the shutouts in all three games. Stano has six saves on the year and Stano has four.

Walsh will be in action again on Friday with a game at Northwood University in GLIAC competition.
