9.13.13 WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cavs Cage Cardinals 7-2

(CANTON, Ohio) – Despite inclement weather moving the match indoors, Walsh was still able to defeat visiting Saginaw Valley State 7-2 from the Hall of Fame Courts Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers improved to 2-2 overall and in the conference, while the Cardinals remain winless at 0-4 both overall and in the conference.

The Cavaliers were fast out of the gates as they swept all three doubles matches. The closest of the three doubles contests came at the first spot as Sofya Logunova (Praha, Czech Republic) and Alona Skobkina (Tarragona, Spain) defeated Izabella Ismailova and Erin Doud 9-7 by breaking the Cardinals’ serve. Alisha Angle (Lexington, OH/HS) and Daria Bondareva (St. Petersburg, Russia) defeated Charlotte Wong and Meghan Woody 8-5 at second doubles, while Anastasiya Dasik (Kiev, Ukraine) and Arina Kravitz (So., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) defeated Ashley Giordano and L Majani 8-2.

In singles action, Bondareva, Angle, Skobkina, and Kravitz all picked up their second win of the day to provide the team victory for Walsh. Skobkina came away with the most impressive victory at fifth singles as she won 6-0, 6-0. Bondareva won at second singles 6-2, 6-1 and Kravitz won at sixth singles 6-2, 6-3. Angle lost the first set at fourth singles 5-7, but was able to come back and dominate the second and third sets by scores of 6-1, 6-3.

Walsh returns to action against Lake Superior State tomorrow on the Klekotka Tennis Complex courts at noon. In the case of inclement weather, the match will be moved indoors to the Hall of Fame Courts in Canton.
