Women's Soccer, 2013-09-14

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Eastern Oregon won a battle of unbeaten teams by a score of 1-0 over Walsh in overtime Saturday evening at Milazzo Field. The Cavaliers fall to 3-1 on the year, while the Mountaineers improve to 4-0.

The golden goal came in the 98th minute when Eastern Oregon’s Tori Fedora dribbled along the end line on the right side of the goal before kicking it just right of Cavaliers’ goalie Dani Shambaugh (Fr., 5-7, Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) to the left side of the net just inside the post. Shambaugh played the second half and overtime and made four saves.

After a slow first half, Walsh had a strong second half and overtime as they recorded all 10 of its shots during that time. Olivia Buttery (Sr., 5-4, Canton, OH/Jackson) led the way with three shots for the Cavaliers. Walsh had two strong opportunities late to go ahead, but a shot by Madison Strausbaugh (Fr., 5-8, Wooster, OH/Waynedale) just missed off of a corner kick on a great save by the Mountaineers’ keeper Kailey Moss. Jessie Gearhart (So., 5-9, Wadsworth, OH/HS) also had a good look in overtime, but Moss was able to come up with another save. Michaella Stucky (So., 5-5, Medina, OH/HS) started the game for the Cavs and made three saves in the opening half.

Walsh returns to the pitch on Friday when it begins conference play against Northwood. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
