9.14.13 WOMEN'S TENNIS: Walsh Shuts Out Lake State

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) -  Walsh gave a strong performance on the Klekotka Tennis Complex as it shutout visiting Lake Superior State University 9-0 on a sunny afternoon. The Cavaliers have now won three consecutive contests to improve to 3-2 overall and in the GLIAC. The Lakers now also stand at 3-2 overall and in the conference.

The Cavs equaled their hot start of yesterday by winning all three doubles contests with Sofya Logunova (Praha, Czech Republic/Russian Embassy School in Prague) and Alona Skobkina (Tarragona, Spain/Instituto Espan de Andorra) winning a marathon match at first doubles 9-8 with a 9-7 tiebreaker. The teams were so closely matched that Walsh scored one point after both teams combined for 50 shots following the serve. Alisha Angle (Lexington, OH/HS) and Daria Bondareva (St. Petersburg, Russia/HS) won 8-3 at second doubles. Anastasiya Dasik (Kiev, Ukraine/School N 40) and Arina Kravitz (Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 8-4 at third doubles to complete the sweep of the paired competition.

Logunova dominated her first singles match with a pair of 6-0 scores. Bondareva won 7-6 and 6-4 at second singles. Dasik also had a long match at third singles after she lost the first set 6-7, but came back wo tin 6-4 and 1-0 with a 10-6 tiebreaker. Angle defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles, Skobkina won 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles, and Kravitz capped off the contest with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory at sixth singles.

The Cavs return to action tomorrow to host Michigan Tech. The match is the last of six consecutive home contests to start the season and will start at 10 a.m. on the Klekotka Tennis Complex.
