9.15.12 MEN'S GOLF: Cavs Places Second at Malone Fall Classic

The two-day Malone Fall Classic wrapped up today and Walsh finished second out of five teams with a score of 619. The hosting Pioneers won the event with a total of 578. Spring Arbor was nine strokes back of the Cavs at 628. Mt. Vernon Nazarene was fourth at 634, followed by Grove City at 638.

Walsh had a top-five finisher individually as Jeff Cockerham (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) shot a total of 148. He finished yesterday with a 72 and today with a 76. Brandon Shannon (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Woodridge) finished tied for 12th with a score of 155. Stephen Ely (Sr., Brunswick, OH/Padua Franciscan) was third for the Cavs and tied for 20th overall with a score of 158. Eric Bowman (Jr., Alliance, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) followed with a score of 159 and tied for 23rd overall. Tyler Bornstein (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) rounded up the team with a score of 167.

The Cavaliers will next be in action at the Grand Valley State Invitational. It will be a two-day even starting Sunday, Sept. 23 and will be played at Hawkshead Golf Course in South Haven, MI).
