9.16.11 CROSS COUNTRY: Cavs Compete at National Catholic Invitational at University of Notre Dame
Men's Cross Country, 2011-09-16
Walsh's men and women's cross country teams participated in the National Catholic Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on Friday. The men's cross country finished 11th finished with 310 points in the 8K, putting them in between 10th place Mercyhurst and 12th place Notre Dame College. Bellarmine (Ky.) University finished first amongst 20 Division II schools.
Jordan Groubert (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) was the first runner for Walsh with a time of 26:16 to finish 37th overall in a field of 163. Justin Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) finished second for the Cavs with a time of 26:51. The third runner for Walsh was Dan Bauman (Sr., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) with a time of 27:05. Jackson Zaremba (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) followed right behind with a time of 27:18. Rounding out the scoring for the Cavs was Adam Stilgenbauer (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/Tusky Catholic) with a time of 27:30. Ryan Garrott (Sr., Georgetown, TX/HS) and Nick Isla (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) were the sixth and seventh runners for Walsh with times of 27:35 and 27:38, respectively. The time spread for the Cavs was 1:14 (26:16-27:30).
The women's cross country finished 10th in the 5K. The Cavs finished with 322 points, putting them in between 9th place Siena Heights and 11th place Saint Joseph's. Stonehill College finished first amongst the 22 Division II schools.
Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) once again led Walsh with a time of 19:14, good for 30th in the field of 181. The second runner for the Cavs was Kelsey Dickey (Fr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) with a time of 19:53. Alli Cadle (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) finished third for Walsh with a time of 20:08. She was followed by Rachelle Miller (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) with a time of 20:15. Closing out the scoring for Walsh was Gabby DiTullio (Fr., Galion, OH/Northmor) with a time of 20:55. Rounding out the Walsh top seven were Kaley Charek (So., Clinton, OH/Green) with a time of 20:59 and Rachel Reed (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) with a time of 21:09. The time spread for Walsh was 1:41 (19:14-20:55).
Walsh will next run in the Ohio Intercollegiate Championships at Cedarville University on Friday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.
