9.16.12 WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Draw with Saginaw Valley 2-2

Women's Soccer, 2012-09-16

Walsh went into Saginaw Valley State and was able to come out with a 2-2 draw in double overtime on Sunday afternoon.  The Cavaliers, ranked No. 9 in the recent NSCAA Midwest Region poll, are now 3-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference. The Cardinals played in their second draw of the season and are now 2-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the GLIAC.

The Cavs surprised the Saginaw Valley early as they struck first with a goal by Jessie Gearhart (Fr., 5-9, Wadsworth, OH/HS) in the third minute of the game. It was her third goal of the season. Lauren Jokovich (Jr., 5-4, Canton, OH/Jackson) set her up with the assist on a through-ball played into the middle of the field. Gearhart then put it in from 18 yards out. Walsh held the lead for 20 minutes before the Cardinals tied it up with a goal by Kali Barry off of a rebounded shot.

Molly Martin (Sr., 5-7, Canfield, OH/HS) put the Maroon and Gold up once again with a goal in the 76th minute, but Saginaw Valley tied it up again just two minutes later. From there, the game remained mostly even through regulation and both overtime periods.

Taylor Stano (Fr., 5-7, Massillon, OH/Jackson) played the entire game in goal and recorded eight saves.

Walsh returns home with a conference match against Notre Dame College this Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
