9.19.12 MEN'S TENNIS: Northern Kentucky Stops Cavs

(Highland Heights, KY) Walsh (0-1) dropped its season opener 7-1 to NCAA I Northern Kentucky University (1-0) yesterday in the Blue Grass State.
The Norse opened the match by winning two of the three doubles flights. Walsh’s Carlos Jaque (Fr., Chijuayante, Concepcion, Chile/Lycee Charles de Gaulle) and Christian McCauley (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) posted an 8-5 victory at second doubles over Balint Zsidai and Jimmy Caccamo. Louis Thomas (Jr., Canton, OH/Jackson) and Pablo Cabezon (Fr., Santander, Cantabria, Spain/Calasanz Collegue) lost 8-3 at first doubles and Chase Pucci (Sr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) and Alex Portelance (Fr., Repentigny, Quebec/Felix-Leclerc) dropped an 8-5 decision at third doubles.
NKU claimed a pair of comeback victories in the top two singles matches as Kohls fought back to defeat Diego Yung (Sr., Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 1 singles while Christopher Angulo never dropped a game after the first set, defeating Cabezon, 2-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Andre Correa defeated Thomas, 6-0, 7-6 (5), in No. 3 singles to give the Norse the team victory. Jaque also posted a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 victory at number six singles.
The Cavs are in Dayton for the Wright State University Shootout this weekend (Fri-Sun.).
