9.20.12 MEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Fall to Falcons 4-0

Men's Soccer, 2012-09-20

Notre Dame’s Erik Beattie scored a hat-trick in the first half to help lead the Falcons to a 4-0 win over hosting Walsh in GLIAC action. Both the Cavaliers (2-4, 2-2) and the Falcons (5-1, 3-1) were tied in the conference standings entering tonight.

It didn’t take long for Notre Dame to score as Christian Earnest centered the ball from the right side near the end line to find Beattie, who promptly headed it in to the lower right corner at the 10-minute mark. The duo connected once again on almost the exact same setup three minutes later to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Beattie completed the hat-trick in the 27thminute off a rebound. The Falcons added their last goal when Jacob Sheppard headed the ball in on a corner from Ryan Ware at 73:14.

Walsh's offense had a pair of shots just miss going in the net. The first was near the end of the first half as Broc Sutek (Sr., 6-0, Minerva, OH/HS) just missed on a header that hit the near post on a corner kick from Quebec Gibbins (Sr., 5-10, Canton, OH/Jackson). Midway through the second half, Juan Amaya (So., 6-3, Uniontown, OH/Green) found himself with a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie, but sailed the kick just left of the net. Frank Sanabria (So., 5-11, North Ridgeville, OH/Elyria Catholic) faced 18 shots on the night and came up with eight saves with seven coming in the second half.

The Cavs return to action this weekend as they host the Ohio Dominican Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. They will follow the women’s game against Lake Erie College scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
