9.23.12 MEN'S SOCCER: Ohio Dominican Scores Double-Overtime Win vs. Walsh
Men's Soccer, 2012-09-23
Ohio Dominican scored a goal on a header 22 seconds into the second overtime to hand Walsh an unfortunate 2-1 defeat Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers fall to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Panthers improve to 4-3-1 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC.
The Cavaliers appeared to have momentum on their side in the overtime periods as Michael Dudics (So., 5-10, Doylestown, OH/Chippewa) scored an equalizer at 88:02 to force overtime. He placed himself inside the box and was able to get a kick on the ball after the goalie failed to hold onto ball after a previous shot on goal. It was the last shot Walsh took, however, as Ohio Dominican kept possession for most of the extra time.
The golden goal was scored shortly after the start of the second overtime period when Brent Wahle received a pass on the right side of the box and promptly centered the ball to Kevin McMahon, who headed it into the right side of the net. Ohio Dominican’s first goal was scored by Tommy Glenn off of a rebounded shot in the 37th minute.
Frank Sanabria (So., 5-11, North Ridgeville, OH/Elyria Catholic) faced 23 shots on the day and hit the double-digit mark with 10 saves.
Walsh will be on the road for the next two games as the Cavs travel to Findlay this Friday for a 4:30 p.m. match before traveling to Northwood a week from today at 1 p.m.
