9.28.13 FOOTBALL: Ferris State Hands Cavs 59-16 Thrashing

(CANTON, Ohio) Ferris State (3-1, 3-0) scored a record 59 points against Walsh (1-3, 1-2), in beating them 59-16 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference battle at Fawcett Stadium tonight. The previous mark for points allowed in a single game by Walsh was 56 at Ohio Dominican University in 2007. The Cavs meet Ohio Dominican next Saturday night at Fawcett Stadium at 6 p.m. for Homecoming.

Walsh scored first when Michael Dudics (Jr., Doylestown, OH/Chippewa) connected on a 23-yard field goal on Walsh’s first possession of the game at 6:43 of the first quarter.  The quarter ended with the Cavs leading 3-0.

Ferris State would put 21 points on the board in the second quarter, as quarterback Jason Vander Lann scored on runs of 1, 2 and 6 yards. A Walsh fumble led to the Bulldogs second score, and the final tally of the quarter came with 26 seconds left in the half.

Ferris State scored two touchdowns in the first two-plus minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 35-3, and in essence, put the game away. They led 38-3 after three quarters.

Walsh’s Jeremy Willison (So., Zanesville, OH/Marysville) scored two second half touchdowns, one on a two-yard pass from Paul Kempe (Jr., Girard, OH/Ursuline), and the other on a four-yard run,

Ferris State totaled 615 yards of total offense to Walsh’s 369 yards.

Vander Lann rushed for 85 yards and passed for 225 yards on 14-21.

Kempe passed for 256 yards and a touchdown on 29-47.
