Men's Soccer, 2013-09-29

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh dropped a hard-fought overtime thriller to visiting Tiffin by a count of 3-2 on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Milazzo Field. The Cavaliers (3-5, 3-3) held a 2-1 advantage for the majority of the game, but the Dragons (6-1, 4-1) scored in the 79thminute to tie the game and once again in the 93rdto win.

The golden goal came when Tiffin took a corner kick early in the first overtime period. The ball sailed to the center of the box where it was headed toward the net before Justin Nolan (Sr., 5-11, Medina, OH/Highland) made a quick save. He couldn’t get control of the ball, however, as it bounced off the cross bar back into the field of play where Smart Osadolor immediately headed the ball into the back of the net.

The Tiffin goal erased a hot start for the Cavs after they scored two goals in the first third of the game. Pat Julian (Sr., 6-1, Canton, OH/GlenOak) lit up the scoreboard first on a perfect pass from Sam Mountstephens (Sr., 5-9, Leigh-on-Sea, England/Westcliff) as he headed the ball in on the right side of the goal at 5:18. The Dragons were able to score an equalizer on a corner kick at 13:20. Mountstephens then provided another go-ahead goal on a penalty kick at 27:39 to make it 2-1. The score remained that way for over 50 minutes until Ryan Johnstone played a ball off a Walsh defender and took it in to tie the game at 78:31.

A high-powered offense of Tiffin outshot Walsh 21-9, but Nolan was strong in goal as he made seven saves.

The Cavs are until a week from today when they travel to Columbus to take on Ohio Dominican University at 2 p.m. Walsh will return to Milazzo Field to host Northwood on Friday, Oct. 11.
