9.5.12 WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Shutout Rival Malone 2-0

With a pair of second half goals, Walsh remained unbeaten on the young season with a 2-0 defeat of rival Malone. The Cavaliers improved to 2-0 overall while the Pioneers fell to 1-2.

Play was at an impasse until Erin Peskura (Fr., 5-4, Strongsville, OH/HS) scored the first and deciding goal on a cross from Gina Pinzone (Sr., 5-6, Cleveland, OH/Padua Franciscan) in the 59th minute. Jessie Gearhart (Fr., 5-9, Wadsworth, OH/HS) finished the afternoon off with the second goal, her second of the year, on an assist from Carley Adams (Sr., 5-8, Louisville, OH/HS) with only a second remaining on the clock.

It was another shutout by committee for the Cavaliers’ goalkeepers as Taylor Stano (Fr., 5-7, Massillon, OH/Jackson) and Michaella Stucky (Fr., 5-5, Medina, OH/Highland) each guarded the net for a half. Stucky made one save in the first half and Stano finished the game with three saves in the second half.

The Cavaliers look to remain unbeaten as they travel to Ursuline College to take on the Arrows this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
