9.5.13 MEN'S SOCCER: Cal Too Much For Cavs

Men's Soccer, 2013-09-05

(CALIFORNIA, Pa.) - Walsh opened up the season with a quick start, but couldn’t stop a high-powered California offense and fell 4-1 in the season opener for both teams. The Cavaliers will return to action at Cedarville on Tuesday.

It took the Cavs just 2:36 to score the first goal of the game on a quick attack off the start. After the ball went out of bounds on the end line, Chad Dickerhoof (Sr., 6-0, Alliance, OH/Marlington) spotted up for a corner kick and placed the ball just right as Chris Lynch (Sr., 6-2, Bellbrook, OH/HS) was able to head the ball in for a quick lead.

Unfortunately for Walsh, the lead didn’t last long as the Vulcans were able to tie the game on a shot from outside the box 12 minutes later. Cal then took the lead three minutes after that off of a set play of its own on a corner kick. The Vulcans also added goals in the 61st and 68th minute.

It was the first of three consecutive road games for the Cavaliers to start the season. After traveling to Cedarville, Walsh will head to Findlay a week from Sunday.
