9.7.13 VOLLEYBALL: Walsh Splits at Gannon

(Erie, PA) Walsh (1-1) opened the season with a split in a tri-match at the Hammermill Center in Erie, PA today. The Cavs swept Roberts Wesleyan University to open the season, but fell the host Gannon University in three sets in the nightcap. The Cavs are at Alderson-Broaddus University on Tuesday night (6 pm).

Walsh swept Roberts Wesleyan (0-2) by set scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-22.  Senior’s and Krissy Sokol (5-9, Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Paige Chandler (6-0, Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) paced the attack with 17 and 14 kills respectively.  Chandler sported an outstanding .545 hitting percentage, to go with a match-high 12 digs. Freshman setter Hailey Howell (5-11, Clarkston, MI/Our Lady of the Lakes) handed out a match-best 34 assists in her collegiate debut/.Freshman Kelly Miller (6-2, Green Springs, OH/Old Fort) led Walsh with four blocks.

Gannon (2-0) swept the Cavs in nightcap by set scores of 15-25, 19-25 and 12-25. Chandler paced the Cavs with 9 kills, with Sokol adding seven. Howell handed out 23 assists.
