9.7.13 MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Groubert Finishes First in Ric Sayre Invitational

Men's Cross Country, 2013-09-07

Justin Groubert (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) started the year as well as anyone could hope for as he finished first individually in the annual Ric Sayre Invitational. He cruised past the rest of the field of 83 thinclads with a time of 25:56, 14 seconds better than the second place runner Dan McGeary of Mt. Union. Overall, the team finished third overall with a team score of 48. John Carroll and Mt. Union tied for first place with a score of 38, but going by the top finish of each team’s sixth runner, the Blue Streaks took home top honors.

Naimbai Njerakey (Fr., North Canton, OH/Wheaton (MD)) was second for the Cavaliers and sixth overall with a time of 26:40. Justin Eddy (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) finished at 26:53, good for 10th overall and ninth for the team points. Jackson Zaremba (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) and Ben Lehotay (Fr., Magnolia, OH/Sandy Valley) rounded off the Cavaliers top five. Zaremba finished with a time of 27:15 for 15th overall and 13th in the team points, while Lehotay finished with a time of 27:32 for 21st overall and 19th in the team points.

Walsh is off next week and will return to action at the National Catholic Meet hosted by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The event is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
