9.8.12 MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Cavs Win Ric Sayre Invitational in Coach Mizicko's Debut; Justin Groubert Finishes Second

Men's Cross Country, 2012-09-08

In its first meet of the year, Walsh started the season on the right foot and gave Head Coach Rob Mizicko a fine debut with a win in the annual Ric Sayre Invitational. The Cavaliers (4-0) finished with 33 points, six ahead of second place John Carroll, and had four runners place in the top nine that included three unattached runners.

Justin Groubert (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) paced the team with a time of 26:34, good for second place individually behind graduate assistant Luke Grau who ran unattached. Justin Eddy (Jr., Perry, OH/HS) returned to form with a time of26:59 and a fourth place finish. Jordan Groubert (Sr., Hartville, OH/Lake) was the third Cavalier to cross the finish line with a time of 27:07. Jackson Zaremba (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) was close behind at 27:10 and a ninth place finish. Matt Roshak (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) finished 26th and rounded out Walsh’s top five with a time of 28:09.

Mt. Union finished third with 65 points, Notre Dame College finished fourth with 104 points, and Hiram was fifth with 146 points.

Walsh will be in action on Friday as the Cavs travel to South Bend, Ind. to run in the National Catholic Invitational at the University of Notre Dame. The men are expected to start at 3:30 p.m.
