Men's Soccer, 2012-09-08
In its first conference game as a member of the GLIAC, Walsh came out victorious with a 3-0 decision at rival Malone. The Cavaliers now even their record at 1-1 (1-0 GLIAC), while the Pioneers drop to 0-2 overall (0-1 GLIAC).
It didn’t take long for the Cavs to take the lead as Adam Greenwood (Sr., 5-11, Blackpool, England/Lytham St. Annes) scored on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 9th minute. Walsh quickly made it 2-0 after Jeremy Dietrich (Jr., 6-0, Parma, OH/Padua Franciscan) slipped behind the defense and beat the goalie one-on-one after an assist from Chris Lynch (Jr., 6-2, Bellbrook, OH/HS) four minutes later. Jordan Semple (Sr., 5-7, North Canton, OH/GlenOak) added an insurance goal early in the second half on an assist from Dietrich to set up the final score.
Mike Kelley (Sr., 6-0, Chagrin Falls, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) made six saves on 21 shots faced as he recorded the shutout.
The Cavs return home this Tuesday as they host Cedarville in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
