Background

Alpha Mu is the local chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Counseling Academic and Professional Society International. Chi Sigma Iota is an international honor society for counselors, educators, students, and professionals. The society was established in 1985 by counseling professionals in the State of Ohio to provide recognition for outstanding service within the counseling profession. CSI basically came about as a consequence of the maturity of the counseling profession. There are currently over 230 chapters of CSI worldwide, with about 25,000 members.

The purpose of the honor society is to:

a. "Promote scholarship, research, professionalism and excellence in counseling."

b. "Recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the field of
counseling."

Members are dedicated to the counseling profession and to the advancement of the profession. Alpha Mu was founded in 1986 and currently has about ninet (90) active members.
