Head Coach, Women's Track and Cross-Country

Al Campbell's career in education and athletics spans nearly four decades. He began his career as a physical education teacher and coach at Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1964 and remained there until 1968. In 1968, he began an association with the University of Akron that would last 31 years. Campbell served as head track and cross country coach from 1968 until 1995, the longest service of any coach at Akron.

Campbell coached the Akron men's team for 27 years and the women's for eleven years (1984-95). His teams captured three championships and produced numerous All-Americans, including Walsh's own men's head track and cross-country coach, Dan McCallion.

Campbell's overall coaching record in cross country (262-163) and track (132-59) are complimented by his being named North Star Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1989. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Men's Coach of the Year in 1984. In 1995, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Akron's Dapper Dan Club. He is also a member of the Summit County and University of Akron Sports Hall of Fame.

Al Campbell begins his fourth season as Walsh's cross country and track coach and 39th year in teaching and coaching. Last spring Campbell guided the women's track team to a fourth place AMC finish. One of Ohio's and the nation's most respected coaches, Campbell began his duties at Walsh on July 1, 1999.

Campbell served as assistant track and cross-country coach in 1995 and 1996. He was an adjunct professor from 1995-1998 and is currently an adjuct professor of physical education. Campbell was also named AMC Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Al and his wife Nancy are the proud parents of two children, Patrick and Lisa and three grandchildren, John Jr., Amy and Katelin. The Campbell's reside in Massillon.
