Head Coach - Al Campbell

Al Campbell begins his eighth year as the women's cross country and track coach at Walsh University. Campbell's Cavs finished 36-45 last season and were 11th at the American Mideast Conference Championships.

Campbell's career in education and athletics spans more than three decades. Al started his career as a physical education teacher and coach at Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1964 and remained there until 1968. In 1968, he began an association with the University of Akron that would last 31 years. Campbell served as head track and cross country coach from 1968 until 1995, the longest service of any coach at Akron. Campbell coached the men for 27 years and the women for eleven years (1984-95). His teams captured three championships and produced numerous All-Americans, including Walsh's men's coach Dan McCallion.

Campbell's overall coaching record in cross country (314-174) and track (132-59) at Akron are complimented by his being named North Star Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1989. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Men's Coach of the Year in 1984. In 1995, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Akron's Dapper Dan Club. He is a member of the Summit County and University of Akron Sports Halls of Fame.

Campbell is no stranger to Walsh, having served as assistant track and cross country coach in 1995 and 1996. He was an adjunct professor from 1995-1998 and teaches in the department of physical education.

Al and his wife Nancy are the proud parents of two children, Patrick and Lisa and have three grandchildren, John Jr., Amy and Katelin. The Campbell's reside in Massillon.
