BASEBALL: Cavs (18-22, 12-8 AMC N) Fall From First Place to Third in AMC North

Walsh (18-22, 12-5 AMC N) fell from first place into third place in the American Mideast Conference North Division, after losing four straight games to Seton Hill University 25-15, 9-5 AMC N) last week.  The Cavs have four AMC North games remaining.  They host Point Park College on Friday (1 pm) for two games and travel to Pittsburgh, PA for a pair on Saturday (1 pm).  The Cavs also play a non-conference twinbill game at John Carroll University on Wednesday (2 pm).

All in all, the Cavs went 3-5 last week.  Walsh defeated Notre Dame College 12-0 in an AMC North game on Monday, and then split a non-conference twinbill at Mount Union on Tuesday (L 3-5, W 19-10).  The Cavs bats went silent in losing two games at Seton Hill on Thursday.  Walsh could manage seven hits in the AMC North doubleheader and lost 4-1 and 1-0.  Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) gave-up just one hit and one run, in the home half of the sixth inning in game two.  Seton Hill then came to Walsh and swept the Cavs 9-7 and 15-2 (5) on Saturday.  The visitors led game one 3-2 going into the top of the seventh, when they exploded for six runs to take a 9-2 lead.  Walsh battled with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, but fell two runs short.

Rollin Matsui (Jr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount College) leads the Cavs with a .405 average.  Ben Botbyl (Sr., Willard, OH/HS) is hitting .361 and is second with 25 RBI.  Jeff Nicholas (So., Navarre, OH/Perry) leads the team with 27 RBI.  Derek Gordon (Jr., Brampton, ONT/Centennial) is hitting .357 and leads the team with nine doubles.  The Cavs are hitting .313 as a team.  Chris Norris (5-1) leads the pitching staff with five wins and a 2.43 ERA.  Kyle Lynn (Jr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) is 4-4 with a 3.53 ERA and a team-leading 46 strikeouts.

GOLF: Cavs (17-2-1) Win Home Invitational/Place Third at Mount Vernon

Walsh (17-2-1) won its own invitational and finished third at Mount Vernon Nazarene last week.  They play at Cedarville University (Beaver Creek Country Club of the North) on Monday and Tuesday and at Malone College (Tannenhauf GC) on Friday and Saturday.

David Rose (Jr., Marietta, OH/HS) captured medalist honors and Walsh won by 22 strokes at their own invitational, held at Prestwick Country Club on Monday and at Raintree Golf Course.  Rose shot a 67 on Monday and a 76 on Tuesday, to finish with a 36-hole total of 143.  Walsh's David Brodie (Jr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) (75-77) finished at 152, nine strokes back of Rose.  Walsh fired a final round 308 to finish with a two-day total of 604.

Walsh faltered in the final round of the Mt. Vernon Nazarene Cougar Invitational and finished tied for third, behind tournament winner Malone College (590) and second place Tiffin University (595).  Walsh led by five strokes after the first day, but shot a final round 306, to finish tied with Cedarville University (598).  David Rose shot a final round 75 and was the only Cavalier to make the All-Tournament team. He shot an opening round 69 and finished with a 144.  Chris Sigler (Sr., Wooster, OH/Triway) fired an opening round 68 and finished at 146 after a second round 78.

David Rose leads the team with a 75.0 average.  Chris Sigler is averaging 75.2 and David Brodie 76.7.

SOFTBALL: Cavs (13-19, 4-5) Win Two of Seven in Toughest Week of the Season

Walsh (13-19, 4-5 AMC S) won two of seven games in what had to be their toughest week of the season.  The Cavs are in fifth place in the AMC South, but only one game behind fourth place Cedarville University (17-14, 5-4 AMC S).  This week, the Cavs play an AMC South doubleheader at Malone College on Tuesday (3:30 pm) and at home against Shawnee State University on Saturday (1 pm).  These are the final AMC games for the Cavs.

Walsh managed only two runs in a doubleheader defeat at Mount Vernon Nazarene.  MVNU won game one 3-2 and game two 1-0.  Megan Pisciotta (So., Uniontown, OH/Akron Saint Vincent-St. Mary) took the loss in game two, despite allowing only a run on four hits.  Geneva took two from the Cavs, by scores of 4-1 and 8-7.  Dana Hartings (So., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) pitched well in game one, only to suffer the loss.  Walsh defeated Ursuline College 7-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.  Hartings was the winning pitcher and had two hits and three RBI.  Game two was called because of darkness in the fourth inning with Walsh trailing 3-1.  No date has been set to resume the game.  Hartings pitched one of the finest games of the season in Walsh's 2-0 win over Ohio Dominican University, in the first game of an AMC South doubleheader on Saturday.  Hartings allowed only two hits and fanned six.  Kelly Jackson (So., Akron, OH/Ellet) drove in the first run with a single and Hartings drove in the final run.  Walsh lost the nightcap 7-5.

MEN'S TENNIS: Cavs (11-5, 5-0) Lead AMC
