After dropping the first game (8-1) of a double header at Geneva College on Monday, Walsh bounced back with a 9-1 win in game two.Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) scattered four hits in the complete game win.Catcher Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) had three hits and drove in two runs. Right-fielder Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) had three hits and a RBI and third baseman Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two RBI. Walsh rallied from seven runs down to beat Notre Dame 8-7, in the first game of a double header on Friday.First baseman Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had four hits and a RBI, and second baseman Mike Weibley (Fr., Mentor, OH/Lake Catholic) had three hits and drove in two runs.Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) went the distance to pick-up his third win of the season.In game two, the Cavs blanked the Blue Falcons in six innings 12-0.Pettigrew had three hits, while Klick, and left fielder Pat Conley (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) each drove in two runs.Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) pitched a three-hit shutout to improve to 3-2. Walsh then took two from Notre Dame at Walsh on Saturday, by scores of 8-5 and 7-3.The Cavs rallied from a 5-1 deficit to win the opener.Walsh pushed across four runs in the sixth to take the lead.Andrew Tighe (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Moeller) (1-0) picked-up the win in relief, pitching shutout ball the final 3.1 innings.Walsh put the game away with four runs in the first inning.Indorf homered and drove in two runs, and Pettigrew also drove in two runs.Dougherty worked the first six innings to get the win, and is 4-2, with a 2.84 ERA. Rollin Matsui leads the Cavs with a .446 average.Shortstop Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) is hitting .313 with 11 RBI, and posted an 11-game hitting streak.Pettigrew is hitting .310 and leads the team with 15 RBI.Indorf and Klick have each driven in 13 runs. Walsh has raised its team batting average to .264.Schon has a team-best 2.56 ERA and Dougherty leads the team with four wins and has a 2.84 ERA. SOFTBALL: (14-16, 3-3 AMC S) Red-Hot Cavs Back in AMC Race After starting the season 3-13, the Cavs have won 11 of their last 14 games and climbed back into the race in the American Mideast Conference South Division.Since losing two games to Ohio Dominican, Walsh has won three of their last four AMC games. This week, the Cavs play three non-conference double headers.Walsh is at Tiffin University (3 pm) on Tuesday, at Notre Dame College (3 pm) on Wednesday, and home to Mountain State on Saturday (2 pm). Walsh opened their 7-3 week with a double header loss at Ohio Dominican on Tuesday. Errors hurt the Cavs in both games, as they committed seven in the two games.Walsh dropped the opener 8-6 and the nightcap 8-7.The Cavs then bounced back the next day to take two games from Edinboro University, 2-1 in nine innings, and 17-2.Ashley Whitt (Fr. Manchester OH/HS) had the game winning hit in game one, after Kelly Jackson (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) had doubled to tie the game.Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) went the distance to pick-up the win.Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) had a career day in game two, with two homeruns and seven RBI.Notch hit a grand slam in the first inning, and a three-run blast in the third.She leads the team with four homeruns and 18 RBI.Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) picked-up the win. Walsh then won two non-league games from Point Park on Friday, 4-1 and 9-1.Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) tossed a three-hitter to win the opener.Walsh then banged out 15 hits in the nightcap, with Sherry and Notch each having two doubles.Sherry had three hits and two RBI, and was the winning pitcher. After dropping a 6-4 decision in game one at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, Walsh gained the split in the AMC South twin-bill with a 6-2 win in game two.Hartings took the loss in the opener.Behind Pisciotta (3-5) in game two, Walsh came away with the split.Hartings drove in two runs, as did Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson).Walsh scored six runs in the first inning at Urbana on Sunday in winning game one 10-8.Schmidt led-off the game with a homerun and drove in two runs.Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-4, with a double and two RBI.Hartings fanned 12 in winning her sixth game of the season.She is 6-8, with a 3.10 ERA.Schmidt homered in game two and Krystal Sherry won for the fifth time, as Walsh completed the AMC South sweep.Kelly Jackson's seventh inning double snapped a 3-3 tie and gave the Cavs the win. Walsh's bats have come to life, as they have raised their team batting average 38 points, to .284 in the last 10 games.Jamie Notch is hitting a team-leading .354 and is having a triple crown season, as she also leads in homeruns (4) and RBI (18).Ashley Whitt is hitting .346, Jessica Hudnall .325 and Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmstead, OH/HS) .321.Sherry leads the staff with a 1.78 ERA, while Hartings leads with six wins and 96 strikeouts in 97 innings. MEN'S TENNIS: Cavs (9-2, 2-0) 2-0 in AMC Walsh (9-2, 2-0 AMC) went 1-1 last week, with their loss coming at NCAA I Cleveland State University.The Cavs lost 7-0 to the Vikings, which snapped their eight-match win streak.Walsh would then bounce back to blank Roberts Wesleyan 9-0 in an American Mideast Conference match on Friday.This week, the Cavs are home to Notre Dame College on Tuesday (3 pm) and at Aquinas College (MI) on Thursday (4 pm). The Cavs one-two punch of Stephen Webster (Jr., Lexington, OH/HS) and Dexter Mahase (Jr., La-Romaine, Trinidad) are a combined 17-5 at first and second singles.Webster is 8-3 playing mainly first singles while Mahase is 9-2, playing mostly at number two.The two make up the Cavs top doubles team, and are 8-2.Sean Smith (Sr., Edgewater, NY/Bradenton Academy) is 9-2 at third singles.Freshman Justin Collins (Lexington, OH/HS) is 6-4 at mostly fourth singles and Greg Kerschbaum (Jr., Elyria, OH/HS) is 8-3 at mostly fifth singles.Andy Coutts (Sr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) is 6-5 at sixth singles.Smith and Collins are 8-1 at second doubles and Kerschbaum and Nick Grahame (Sr., Louisville, OH/ST. Thomas Aquinas) are 7-2 at third doubles. WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cavs (8-3, 3-0) Have Won Last Eight, Remain Unbeaten in AMC Walsh (8-3, 3-0 AMC) continues to play outstanding tennis, having won their last eight matches.The Cavs defeated the College of Wooster (9-0), and then won back-to-back American Mideast Conference matches over Roberts Wesleyan (9-0) and Ohio Dominican University (6-3).This week, they play a non-conference match at West Liberty State on Wednesday. The Cavs top six have been very consistent during the eight-match win streak.Number one singles player Kristen Cady (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) is 6-5 on the season, but has won six of her last seven matches.Jenamarie Ianni (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) is 6-5 at second singles and has won five straight matches.The duo is also 7-4 at first doubles. Lindsey Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) is 6-5 at third singles and has won her last five matches.Ingrid Brainard (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) is 7-3 at fourth singles, and is 6-1 with Lindsey Cady at third doubles. Megan Navarre (Jr., Indianapolis, IN/Center Grove) is 8-3 at fifth singles, with an eight-match win streak.Freshman Hilary Rossi (Warren, OH/JFK) is 6-4 at mostly sixth singles, with three straight wins.Rossi and Jen Yost (Fr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) are 3-2 at third doubles. MEN'S TRACK: Cavs (12-11) Fourth at Wooster Walsh (12-11) finished fourth at the College of Wooster Invitational this past weekend.This Saturday the Cavs are at Mount Union. Brendan McKee (So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Alex McCallion (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) each posted first place finishes at Wooster.McKee was first in the 300m steeplechase (950.62) and McCallion in the 400 hurdles (56.89).Pete Manfredi Sr., Euclid, OH/Cleveland St. Joseph) finished second in the pole vault (3.50m) and Jerome Jackson (So., Euclid, OH/HS) was third in the shot put (44-08). WOMEN'S TRACK: Cavs (20-5) Fourth at Wooster Walsh (20-5) finished fourth at the College of Wooster this past Saturday.Walsh had 93.5 points.Case Western Reserve won the meet with 118.5 points.The Cavs are at Mount Union this Saturday. The Cavs lone win came from Ebony Williams (Jr., Akron, OH/Firestone) in the high jump.The former AMC champ won with a jump of 5.2.Danielle Cofojohn (Fr., Diamond, OH/Southeast) placed second in the shot put (36.5.75) and third in the discus (119.0).The Cavs received third place finishes from Kristen LeFever in the 800m (2:26.56), Lauren Blase (Fr., Boardman, OH/HS) 5000m (19:51.38), Tess Francis (Sr., Randolph, OH/Waterloo) 400H (69.69), Jackie Misiak (So., North Royalton, OH/HS) 100h (16.59), and in the 4x100 relay (52.53) with Jessica LeGrair (Sr., Copley, OH/HS) , Brenna Kirkbride (So., Atwater, OH/Waterloo) , Jessica Swihart (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) and Casey Fischer (Jr., Aurora, OH/HS). Maria Mudd (So., Suffield, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Vicki Tomsic (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) competed in the 3000m race walk at Cedarville University on Saturday.Mudd placed fourth, and met the provisional standard of 18:30, with a time of 18:25.63.Tomsic was fifth (18:47.68).
