Walsh snapped a three-game losing streak with their AMC North Division doubleheader sweep at Geneva College on Thursday.  The Cavs toppled the Golden Tornadoes 13-2 in game one and 5-1 in game two.  Walsh banged out 17 hits in the opener.  Ben Botbyl (Sr., Willard, OH/HS) had three hits and drove in three runs and Jeff Nicholas (So., Navarre, OH/Perry) had a pair of hits and also drove in three runs.  Duane Kaley (Sr., Deerfield, OH/Southeast) had three hits and two RBI and Chad Campbell (So., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) had three hits.  Starting pitcher Kyle Lynn (Jr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) tossed a seven hitter and went the distance to earn his third win of the season.  Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) started the nightcap and worked six and two-third innings to earn the win.  Andy Scritchfield (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) drove in two runs.

Walsh made a clean sweep of Geneva College, winning 15-2 and 1-0 on Saturday.  The Cavs banged out 13 hits in winning game one 15-2 in five innings.  Rollin Matsui (Jr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount College) hit a three-run homerun and drove in five runs and Ryan Inama (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) clubbed a bases loaded triple in the first inning to get the Cavs going.  Andy Schon (Jr., Akron, OH/Coventry) pitched a complete game four-hitter, with five strikeouts to pick-up the win.  Schon in 4-1.  Ed Bartolec (Sr., Poland, OH/Cardinal Mooney) picked-up his first win (1-2), with a three-hit complete game shutout in nightcap.  Bartolec fanned five and walked only one.  Andy Scritchfield scored the only run of the game in the third inning, scoring from third base on a Chad Campbell single.

SOFTBALL: Cavs (10-11, 3-2) Take Five of Seven Games

Walsh (10-11, 3-2 AMC S) won five out of seven games last week and opened American Mideast Conference South play with three wins in five games.  The week also produced a suspended game at Cedarville University.  This week, the Cavs host Tiffin University on Tuesday (3 pm), play at Notre Dame College on Wednesday (3 pm) and travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday (1 pm) for an AMC South twinbill.

Walsh extended its modest winning streak to four games with a doubleheader sweep of Edinboro University last Tuesday.  The Cavs rallied to win game one 4-3, then blanked the Scots 1-0 in the nightcap.  Dana Hartings (So., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) won her third straight game in the opener, providing power at the plate as well. Hartings two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Cavs a 4-3 lead.  Megan Pisciotta (So., Uniontown, OH/Akron Saint Vincent-St. Mary) pitched a four-hit shutout in the nightcap. Walsh scored the games only run in the fourth inning, as Rebecca Adkison (Sr., Manchester, OH/Archbishop Hoban) reached base on an error and scored on Jessica Edmunds (So., Uniontown, OH/Green) RBI double.

Walsh lost its AMC South Division opener 6-5 at Cedarville University on Wednesday, then had game two suspended in the eighth inning with the score tied at 2-2 due to darkness.  No date has been set for the completion of the second game.  Cedarville scored four runs in the first inning of game one against Walsh starter, and loser, Megan Pisciotta.  Walsh rallied to tie the game, but fell in the bottom of seventh when the Yellow Jackets scored an unearned run to win.  Catcher Kelly Jackson (So., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-3 with an RBI.

Walsh swept Urbana University (8-10, 0-2) in an AMC South doubleheader on Saturday.  The Cavs won the opener 4-1, and then rallied to win the nightcap 6-5 in 13 innings. Dana Hartings pitched a complete game, five-hitter, in the opener to improve to 5-6.  Hartings (6-6) won both ends of the twinbill.  Walsh's Nicole Offenbecher (Fr., Massillon, OH/Washington) was 3-3 with two doubles.  In game two, Urbana jumped on Walsh starter Megan Pisciotta for a run in the first inning and three in second to take a 4-0 lead.  Walsh tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second, but trailed 5-4 going to the home half of the sixth inning.  The Cavs tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a lead-off homerun from Jamie Notch (Jr., Suffield, OH/Field).  Hartings relieved Pisciotta in the fifth and held Urbana scoreless the rest of the way.  Walsh settled the issue in the 13th inning, when Rebecca Adkison singled home Jessica Modic (So., Poland, OH/HS) with the winning run.  Adkison was 2-2 with a double and two RBI.

Walsh split an AMC South Division doubleheader at the University of Rio Grande on Sunday.  Rio Grande rallied from a 9-4 sixth inning deficit in game one to win 11-9.  Dana Hartings (6-7) was the starter and loser in game one for the Cavs.  Kelly Jackson had three hits in game one and Jamie Notch had a pair of doubles.  Walsh banged out 15 hits.  Megan Pisciotta (4-3) handcuffed Rio in game two, even though she allowed ten hits and walked four.  Walsh took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on passed ball.  Kelly Jackson drove in the second run with a single in the third and Nicole Offenbecher drove in what proved to be the winning run on a fielders choice.
