FOOTBALL: Cavs (0-0) Open 11th Season at West Liberty
Walsh opens its 11th season on Saturday at West Liberty State College. The Cavs and Hilltoppers (0-1) meet at 1 pm at Russek Field. Walsh returns 47 letter winners for Head Coach Jim Dennison (71-36. 10 yrs.). The Cavs finished 8-3 overall last season and 6-1 in the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League. Walsh enters the 2005 season ranked 21st in the NAIA and 18th in the NAIAFootball.net poll.
West Liberty dropped its season opener 24-20 at Geneva College on Saturday. West Liberty took the lead at 20-17 with 3:39 on a 25-yard pass from Jay Gullion to Kyle Scherich. But the Geneva ran the kick-off back 90 yards to take the lead and game. West Liberty out gained Geneva 358 to 212 in total offense and recorded seven more first downs. Walsh and the Hilltoppers are meeting for the eighth time, with Walsh holding a 5-2 series advantage. The Cavs won 18-13 at Fawcett Stadium last year. The Cavs have never lost a season opener (10-0) and are 4-0 in openers on the road. The game will be broadcast live on the Walsh University Football Network (900 AM WCER, 1350 AM and on the internet at www.wcer.us.)
WOMEN'S GOLF: Cavs Open Third Season at Robert Morris Invitational
Walsh opens its third season at the Robert Morris Invitational in Pittsburgh, PA on Friday. The Cavs won the AMC and NAIA Region IX title last season and finished 45-35. The Cavs finished 22nd at the NAIA National Tournament. Second year Head Coach Karley Mohler returns five letter winners from the 2004-05 season.
MEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Open 35th Season at Home
Walsh opens its 35th season at home this week, with a pair of contests. The Cavs meet Saint Vincent College at 4 pm on Friday and meet Seton Hill University at 2 pm on Saturday.
Veteran Head Coach Tim Mead (250-175-26) is at the helm for the 24th straight season. Walsh finished 9-10 overall and 5-3 in the South Division of the American Mideast Conference. The Cavs return 20 letter winners and eight seniors from last season. The Cavs won four of their last five games last season to qualify for the AMC Playoffs. Walsh and Saint Vincent are meeting for the 21st time, with the Cavs holding a 15-4 edge with one tie. The Cavs and Seton Hill are meeting for the third time. Walsh leads the series 2-0.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Open 18th Season at Home
Walsh opens its 18th season at home this weekend. The Cavs have homes matches on Friday at 2 pm against Saint Vincent College and on Saturday at 12 pm against Siena Heights University.
Head Coach Ed Vargo (36-35-3) returns for his fifth season. Walsh finished 10-7-1 last season and 2-4-1 in the South Division of the American Mideast Conference. Vargo brings back 12 letter winners and five seniors from last season. Walsh and Saint Vincent are meeting for the ninth time, with Walsh holding an 8-1 advantage. The Cavs and Siena Heights are meeting for the ninth time. Walsh trails in the series 1-8.
VOLLEYBALL: Cavs Open 28th Season at Roberts Wesleyan
Walsh opens its 28th season at the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational in Rochester, NY this Friday and Saturday. The Cavs open the tournament against Messiah College at 6 pm on Friday night, and then play Daemen College at 8 pm. The tournament concludes on Saturday.
Head Coach Krista Singleton (26-11) begins her second season on the bench. The Cavs finished 26-11 overall and 12-4, good for the second place in the South Division of the American Mideast Conference. Walsh reached the AMC Tournament Championship game and qualified for the NAIA Region IX Tournament. Their streak of three straight trips to the NAIA National Tournament was stopped.
Singleton returns five letter winners, but no seniors. The Cavs lost NAIA All-American Ruth Kucklick, along with first team All-AMC South player Lauren Collins.

Walsh opens the season at the Westminster Invitational. Veteran Head Coach Dan McCallion returns 12 letter winners in his 29th year at Walsh. The Cavs also welcome back two seniors.
