FOOTBALL: Cavs Open 15th Season at West Liberty
Walsh opens its 15th season on the road this Saturday at 1 pm against the Hilltoppers of West Liberty State. Walsh has won 11 of 14 opening games, and won 31-7 at Trinity last year. West Liberty opened their season last Saturday at Edinboro University, and lost 42-30. Walsh lost 24-10 at home against the Hilltoppers last season, but lead the all-time series 6-5.
Walsh finished 3-8 last season. Head Coach Jim Dennison (96-56) is in his 15th year at Walsh, and is starting his 28th year overall (176-118-2).

WOMEN'S GOLF: Cavs Capture Racer Invitational, Smith Medalist
Walsh (5-0) captured their first tournament title of the season, winning the UNOH Racer Invitational by 22 strokes over second place University of Saint Francis (IN) (656) on Friday and Saturday. Walsh shot 317 each day, to finish with a two-day total of 634.
Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) captured medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 151. Smith fired a 72 on Friday and a final round 79. She was named to the All-Tournament team with teammates Nikka Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) and freshman Katie Kohut (Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit). Kulasa and Kohut tied for second place. Kulusa shot a final round 78 and finished with 36-hole total of 158. Kohut scored a final round 77, after shooting an opening round 81. Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) finished with a two-day total of 167 (84-83) to finish eighth and Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) finished 15th, with a 172 (85-87).
MEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Opens 39th Season on the Road
Walsh plays its 39th season opener at Franciscan University on Tuesday (4 pm). The Cavs open the home season on Friday at 7 pm with Aquinas College, then host Concordia University on Saturday at 4 pm.
Walsh finished 6-11-1 year. Head Coach Tim Mead (286-205-32) is in his 28th year.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Season Opener Ends in No-Contest
Walsh opened the new season with a new coach, Sara Renard, but ended their first game with a no-contest against Indiana Wesleyan on Friday night. With the visitors leading 2-0 in the 57th minute, the match was halted due to lightning. After an hour and a half wait, the contest was called off due to the weather. A match must reach at least 70 minutes in length to count as an official match. Since the contest did not meet the minimum requirements the match is considered a no-contest.
Walsh will try again on Tuesday, when the host the College of Wooster at 7 pm. This weekend, they travel to Wilmington College on Saturday (4 pm) and to Wittenberg University on Sunday (4 pm).

VOLLEYBALL: Cavs Opens the Season on the Road
Walsh opens the season with five road matches this week. The Cavs open on Tuesday at Baldwin-Wallace College against Thiel College (7 pm), then play in Chicago, Illinois this weekend at the SXU/IIT Crossover. The Cavs meet William Penn University (7 pm) and University of Michigan-Dearborn (9 pm) on Friday and Illinois Tech (11 am) and Trinity International (1 pm) on Saturday.
The Cavs finished 29-13 last year and qualified for the NAIA National Championships. Head Coach Krista Burrows (140-50) is starting her sixth year.
