"Cavs/Purple Raiders Pushed Back a Day"

Tomorrow's single game between Walsh and Mount Union College has been pushed back to Wednesday.  First pitch at Walsh is scheduled for 4 pm.

"Six Run 8th Too Much for Cavs"

(Chillicothe, OH) Youngstown State (6-5) broke open a tight game with six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, on their way to a 13-6 win over the Cavs (5-9) today.  The win gave the Penguins a three-game sweep of the Cavs.

Walsh trailed 7-5 in the bottom of the eighth when the Penguins put up the eight spot.  They banged out 19 hits in the win.  Mark Kelly (Sr., Norton, OH/HS) Dustin Lancy (Jr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) led Walsh's nine-hit attack.  Kelly banged out four hits, including two doubles, with two RBI.  Lancy doubled and tripled and drove in a run. 

Freshman right-hander David Roper (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) was the starter and loser for the Cavs.  Roper worked 5.1 innings, allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits.  He fanned seven.

"Cavs/YSU Rained Out"

(Chillicothe, OH) Walsh (5-8) and Youngstown State will play the final game of their three-game weekend series tomorrow at 12 pm due to inclement weather today.

"Cavs Fall Twice to Youngstown"

(Chillicothe, OH) Walsh (5-8) lost both ends of a doubleheader to Youngstown State University (5-5) at VA Memorial Stadium today.  The Cavs dropped the opener 9-2 in nine innings and lost the nightcap 6-4 in seven innings.  The two teams will complete the three-game series with a single game at 1 pm tomorrow.

The Penguins snapped a scoreless tie with three runs in the third inning, then added three more in the fifth off of Walsh starter and loser Rob Rose (Sr., Hudson, OH/HS).  Rose was charged with six runs on five hits.  He fanned four and walked four.  The Cavs mustered just five hits.  Mike Suliks (Sr., Norton, OH/HS) and Dave Krusinski (Fr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Woodridge) each drove in a run.

Walsh jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two.   Dustin Lancy (Jr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) doubled to left-center to plate the Cavs' runs.  YSU took the lead in the bottom of the third off of Walsh starter and loser  Billy Gura (So., Sagamore Hills, OH/St. Peter Chanel).  Walsh tied the game in top of the fourth at 3-3, but YSU tied the game in the bottom of the inning and then scored twice in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead.  Walsh added a run in the seventh on a Mark Kelly single (Sr., Norton, OH/HS).  Gura was touched for five runs in four innings.

"Baseball Back From Florida"

After a 5-6 trip in Florida, the Cavs play their first Ohio baseball this weekend.  The Cavs meet Youngstown State University in a three-game series in Chillicothe, Ohio starting on Friday.  The Cavs and Penguins play singles on Friday (2 pm), Saturday (1 pm) and on Sunday at 12 pm.

"Cavs Shutout Indiana Wesleyan to Stop Slide"

(Lake Wales, FL) Billy Gura (So., Sagamore Hills, OH/St. Peter Chanel) PICTURED LEFT pitched five shutout innings, as Walsh (5-6) stopped a three-game slide with a 5-0 win over Indiana Wesleyan (4-8) this morning at the Warner Southern Tournament.  Gura scattered three hits, fanned three and did not walk a batter.

Walsh gave Gura all the runs he would need with a two in the second inning.  They would add three more runs in the third.  Dustin Lancy (Jr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) was 2-2 with a double, Mark Kelly (Sr., Norton, OH/HS) was 2-3 and Mike Suliks (Sr., Norton, OH/HS) also had two hits.

"Walk-Off Beats Cavs"

(Lake Wales, FL) Warner Southern University (9-12) hit a one out two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand Walsh (4-6) a 5-3 defeat in the second game of a split doubleheader today.  Rob Rose (Sr., Hudson, OH/HS) went the distance for the Cavs and was tagged with the loss.  The long ball was his nemesis, as he also gave-up a three-run blast in
