The Trojans (5-2) had to overcome an early second-half barrage by the Cavs that had the hosts up 17 points with 14:14 to play in regulation. Walsh went on a 12-0 run to start the second half, with eight points coming from Cara Bedard (Jr., 6-0, Randolph, OH/Waterloo), to lead 43-29. With momentum still on their side, the Cavs pushed the lead to 17 thanks to a trio of jumpers by Jessie Miller (Sr., 5-10, Strasburg, OH/HS). However, the momentum tide would turn as the Trojans reeled off 20-straight points to take a three-point lead at 53-50 with 8:15 to play. The Cavs would retake the lead at 57-56 on a basket by Katie Berry (Jr., 5-11, Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph’s) with just over six minutes remaining. They would hold the lead down the stretch until a turnover by Miller with five seconds left gave the Trojans one last chance. Taylor struck first in overtime with a baseline basket by Nellie Eskew. Cedarville leads the all-time series 18-15.

"Walsh Classic Bodes Well For Cavs"
Two games in the brand new Alumni Arena resulted in two wins over the weekend for the Cavaliers as they downed the Marian Knights 77-64 today in the final game of the Walsh Classic. Both teams were coming off strong games Friday evening although Marian fell to Shawnee State. The Knights (0-2) stayed close with the Cavaliers (2-0, RV) for a half, but Walsh slowly pulled away and held a double-digit lead for all but 21 seconds of the second half.
The offensive attack was well-balanced once again today as four Cavs reached double figures in scoring, with one player a single tally shy of making it five as one day prior. The leading scorer for Walsh was Leah Seaman (Sr., 5-8, Louisville, OH/HS), who turned in a game-high 17-point effort coming off the bench. She shot 6-7 from the floor and made all three 3-pointers attempted.
Cara Bedard (Jr., 6-0, Randolph, OH/Waterloo) added 15 for the Cavs, while Jessie Miller (Sr., 5-10, Strasburg, OH/HS) added 14 and Katie Berry (Jr., 5-11, Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) pitched in 13. Berry led the team in assists again with seven on the day. Leading the team in rebounds was Kayla Kovach (So., 6-0, Lakewood, OH/HS/IPFW) with seven in addition to her nine points.
Bedard’s 30 points over the two days earned her accolades as the Walsh Classic MVP. Miller’s 14 in addition to her 15 on the first night placed her on the Walsh Classic All-Tournament team. Others named to the team were Mallory Albers (Sr., 5-7, Fort Loramie, OH/HS) and Abby Ballman (So., 5-9, Cincinnati, OH/Mother of Mercy) from Shawnee State, Hannah Sabol from Concordia (Fr., 5-11, Shelby Township, MI), and Molly Lauck (Sr., 5-11, Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) from Marian.
Walsh won’t have long to celebrate the good weekend as they host rival Malone on Tuesday night for the Mayor’s Cup. Game time is schedule for 8 p.m. following the men’s home opener against Cincinnati Christian College at 6 p.m.

"Cavs Christen New Arena With Win"
The brand new Alumni Arena was christened in impressive fashion as the Walsh Cavaliers (RV) women’s basketball team defeated the Concordia Cardinals 94-76 in the Walsh Classic. It was the first basketball game to be played in the gymnasium.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 7-0 start and never looked back, eventually getting to a 20-point lead just under 10 minutes into the game. The lead would reach as high as 31 points in the first half, but a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Concordia sent the teams into the break with Walsh up 55-27. The second half faired better for the Cardinals as they outscored the Cavaliers during that time, but the deficit was just too much to make up as Walsh easily won 94-76.
A hot-shooting night aided in the victory for the Cavs as they shot 68.8 percent from the floor in the first half and 60.3 percent for the entire game. All nine Cavaliers that saw playing time scored and eight of nine shot 50 percent or better. Five players reached double figures including Kayla Kovach (So., 6-0, Lakewood, OH/HS/IPFW) with a team-leading 16, Cara Bedard (Jr., 6-0, Randolph, OH/Waterloo) and Jessie Miller (Sr., 5-10 Strasburg, OH/HS) with 15, Kristi Yoder (So., 6-1, Millersburg, OH/Hiland) with 14, and Darlene Woolf (Jr., 5-7, East Rochester, OH/United) with 10. Berry led the team with nine assists and Bedard pulled down seven boards.
Walsh (1-0) will return to action tomorrow for the second day of the Walsh Classic as they do battle with the Marian College Knights with a scheduled start of 4 p.m. Concordia (1-1) will play in the opening game tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Shawnee State, a 64-51 winner over Marian in tonight’s nightcap.
