B. The Book Scholarship
The Sandra I. Lopez-Baez Book Scholarship
The purpose of this award is to help a graduate student who has financial need in the Counseling and Human Development M.A. program by subsidizing the cost of textbooks for one semester.
Criteria/Guidelines
This Award is named the Sandra I. Lopez-Baez Book Scholarship.
Applicants must meet Alpha Mu's membership criteria: fulfill candidacy requirements at Walsh University, and maintain a GPA of 3.5 or better. The faculty advisor will verify GPA.
Individuals should apply in writing to the Awards/Scholarships Committee of Alpha Mu and include a statement of professional goals, reasons for seeking the scholarship, and benefits they will obtain from this scholarship.
The Award/Scholarships Committee will meet once a year in the spring or summer to review applications. The award will be issued in the summer or fall.
The scholarships are limited to $250 each. Two $250 scholarships will be awarded in the form of a charge to the bookstore for textbook purchase.
Recipients' names will be published in the Alpha Mu newsletter unless requested otherwise.
Recipients of this scholarship are eligible one time only. (The Committee will consider repeat applicants if their financial situation warrants it).
In case there are no applicants, the money allotted for this scholarship remains in the treasury.
The number of scholarships can be increased or decreased based on the financial stability of the Chapter.
Book scholarship announcements are generally made in the fall. Spring awards may also be made. Applicants will be notified in writing of the Committee's decision. Individuals who are not awarded the scholarship are encouraged to apply again.
