University Chaplain
Monsignor Lewis F. Gaetano, Chair, Division of Theology, Director of Graduate Program in Theology, Director of the Catholic Studies Institute, Associate Professor of Theology, began at Walsh in 2003. Prior to coming to Walsh, the North Canton native and a priest of the Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio, served as director of the office of ministry formation for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia and as Catholic Director of Campus Ministry at Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia. Monsignor also served as pastor of the Catholic Community of Mingo Junction, Ohio for 12 years.
Monsignor received his BA in Philosophy from the Athenaeum of Ohio in Cincinnati, Ohio; his MA from West Virginia University in Morgantown and his Doctorate in Ministry from St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Cleveland, Ohio.

Director of Campus Ministry
Michele Schafer is Walsh's Director of Campus Ministry. Appointed in the summer of 2004, Michele continued her life's mission to serve as a Christ-like presence on Walsh's campus by reaching out to meet the religious, spiritual and personal needs of students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and the community.
Michele is a Stark County resident and is quite familiar with Walsh. In 2002, she taught in Walsh's undergraduate Theology program as an adjunct professor. From 1997 to 2003, Michele served as Director of Religious Education for Little Flower Parish overseeing the Rite of Christian Initiation process, CCD, Youth Ministry, Sacramental preparation and adult education programs. From August of 2003 to May of 2004, she traveled the country as a Retreat Coordinator for the National Evangelization Team.
Michele has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Akron and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from John Carroll University.

Assistant Director of Campus Ministry
Miguel Chavez is the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry. Appointed in the summer of 2004, Miguel has been active with Walsh University as a student and now continues in Campus Ministry in service to holistically enriching students, staff and faculty. Miguel is a resident of Stark County and has been very active in area church, ministry, and educational programs. He received his B.A. from Walsh University in Theology and Pastoral Ministry and is finishing is M.A. in Theology.

Director of Liturgical Music / Sacristan
Pedro J Chavez (P.J.) is the Director of Liturgical Music / Sacristan for the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel at Walsh University. He was appointed the summer of 2006. P.J. currently holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Mount Union College in Alliance Ohio. He has spent the previous five years at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green, Ohio as Director of Music. P.J. is currently working on his Instrument and Commercial pilot's license from Kent State University.

Campus Minister
Fr. Jordan Mary Turano, O.P., Campus Minister and Adjunct Professor of Theology began at Walsh in 2006. In August 2007 Fr. Jordan was named to the Campus Ministry Team. Fr. Jordan is a member of the Order of Preachers (commonly known as the Dominicans). Prior to coming to Walsh, the Rhode Island native was assigned to St. Dominic's parish in Youngstown, Ohio where he has parochial duties and religious community responsibilities which include the fiscal wellness of the community.
Father received a bachelors degree in Marine Biology from Roger Williams College in Bristol, Rhode Island; He holds a Masters of Divinity and a Sacred Theology Licentiate from the Pontifical Faculty of Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
Being here at Walsh in the Campus Ministry and also being an adjunct has allowed me to have the best of both worlds, to help in both the spiritual and educational formation of our students and our Campus, helping it to be a Catholic Learning Community |
