Chapel Services and Institutes
The lower level of the Chapel houses Walsh University's Division of Theology, numerous classrooms, faculty offices, and several institutes, including:
Institute of Jewish-Catholic Studies:
Headed by Rabbi John Spitzer, the Jewish-Catholic Institute of Walsh University promotes dialog and study of Jewish and Christian history, thought, and belief. The institute oversees the Wilkof Jewish Study Project and sponsors scholars, courses, conferences, and inter-faith dialogues designed to promote understanding, morality, and good will.
Catholic Studies Institute:
The Institute, founded in 2003, is designed to promote an environment of learning and reflection, offering a selection of educational, pastoral and topical programs that foster a continuing collaboration with the Diocese of Youngstown and local and neighboring diocesan and ecumenical ecclesial and religious communities. The institute sponsors Catholic-oriented theological, inter-disciplinary and inter-cultural programs, including lectures, seminars, and workshops. It is under the direction of Monsignor Lewis Gaetano, University Chaplain and Division of Theology Chair.
Campus Ministry:
An office of Campus Ministry is also located in the lower level of the Chapel to better serve the needs of the community. Campus ministry addresses the personal, spiritual, and religious needs of students, faculty, staff and alumni via speakers, retreat opportunities praise and worship sessions and bible studies and formation classes. Campus Ministry also conducts community outreach initiatives year round.
University Chaplain:
The Office of Chaplain at Walsh University, directed by Msgr. Lewis F. Gaetano, is responsible for the pastoral care of the students, faculty and staff in developing and fostering the mission of the university as a Catholic institution. Through liturgical worship, learning and social opportunities, the Office of the Chaplain helps students and the entire University community to develop in mind and spirit.
