Clinical Laboratory Science

Academics > Clinical Laboratory Science

The Walsh University Clinical Laboratory Science major is designed to prepare you to enter an accredited MT-ASCP training program so that you can qualify to work in a hospital or reference laboratory as a professional.  You can select two different approaches to this major.  The first is to complete a BS at Walsh in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and then to apply to a Medical Technology program to complete your training for the MT-ASCP certification.  The second track is to do a 3+1 program in which 3 years of the BS are completed at Walsh and the 4th year is completed in the MT-ASCP program.  The BS will be a Walsh degree, but some of the MT-ASCP qualifying course will count toward the Walsh degree.

If you complete this major, you are preparing for a career as a laboratory professional in the health care industry.  In the current market, MT-ASCP certified Clinical Laboratory Science Professionals earn between $20-30 per hour and with more education at the graduate level (MS or PhD) can move into managerial and administrative careers.

Expect to maintain a 3.3 or better GPA and to do internship work to improve your chances to qualify for MT-ASCP training programs.
