Student Life and Services > Commuter Assistants Commuter AssistantsThis is a new program for commuting students. We’re looking for a few experienced commuters who are interested in working with freshmen, transfer, and other new commuter students. Would you like to mentor new commuter students? Do you want to help new commuters at Walsh learn how to make the most of their commute time and their time at Walsh? As a volunteer commuter assistant, you will provide new commuters with advice, support, and camaraderie during the new commuters’ first year. You will be a source of information about adjusting to college life as a commuter, including issues such as parking, where to eat, how and where to meet other students, and how to get involved in on-campus activities. The Commuter Assistant Volunteer Program also provides a context for meeting people, making friends, and developing an on-campus support system. What’s in it for you? As a volunteer commuter assistant, you can develop valuable leadership and communication skills. Volunteering is also a great resume builder and shows future employers and graduate schools that you were involved on-campus as an undergraduate student.More than that, though, you will have the opportunity to help someone navigate the maze of being a commuter student. If you’re interested in volunteering as a commuter assistant, contact Susan Job, Coordinator of Commuter Student Services, 330-490-7173 or sjob@walsh.edu. |
