BIO 409 Cell Culture 2 sem. hrs.
This course introduces the student to the technique of cell culture as a research tool. Students will become skilled in aseptic technique as they prepare, maintain and freeze stocks of primary cell cultures. Students will learn how to prepare medium and solutions used in cell culture. Experimental protocols such as protein electrophoresis and detection by immunoassays will be covered in the laboratory. Both primary and continuous adherent cultures will be used to carry out small independent research projects. The course meets for two hours per week. Prerequisites: BIO 209 and BIO 210 are required. Offered at the discretion of the Division.
