SPAN 309 Latin American Short Story 3 sem. hrs.
This course is a survey of literary writing in Spanish America and Brazil. The format is the short story (cuento) which encompasses works from colonial to contemporary times. The works reflect history, politics, economics and issues of gender and race. The course is also designed to improve other aspects of language learning such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and to increase the knowledge of regional colloquialisms and idioms.
