NEW COURSE!

Coming in Fall 2005:

CS199 Special Topics:  Programming for Everyone.  3 credit hours.

Computer hardware and storage devices. Low-level and high-level code. Applications and software. Programming with an easy general-purpose language (Python).
Statements, data types. Formulas, string and text-file processing and interactive programs. Loops, decisions, functions, error handling. (No prior programming experience required. Prerequisite: none).

Python can be downloaded free, works on almost any platform (not just Windows and Macintoshes), is very mature and stable, and can be compiled to run on a Java Virtual Machine like Java. It can do almost anything that C, C++, Java, Fortran etc. can do but is incredibly easy to learn, having a far simpler syntax (set of rules).

Especially recommended for
:
Business majors, Communications majors, Science majors, and also for undecided students leaning towards the Computer Science major.
