Course Offerings

In addition to the traditional survey courses in American, British and Continental writers, seminars that focus upon major authors and interdisciplinary courses that examine particular themes within the literature of Europe, the Americas, and non-Western cultures enrich the curriculum. Themes explored include environmental studies, issues of race and gender in African American literature, the legacy of Custer and Crazy Horse for Native Americans, the American Dream, the body in pain, solitude, the poetics of space, the sublime, and the cultural poetics of rock and roll. Writing courses include offerings in professional, business and technical writing, creative writing, composing process, and modern rhetoric. Opportunities for course work through the Communications Department in print and broadcast media writing, desk top publishing, public relations and advertising, also exist.
