Dr. Bemis
Dr. Susan Bemis has been a physical therapist for over 37 years and has taught in and directed physical therapist educational programs for the past 30 years. Dr. Bemis received a bachelor's degree in biology from San DiegoStateUniversity; a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of California, San FranciscoMedicalCenter; a master's degree in health science education from SUNY Buffalo; and, a doctorate in higher education administration from VanderbiltUniversity. Over her tenure in education she has developed three entry-level physical therapy programs, has assisted another institution in developing their physical therapy program using the curriculum model developed by Dr. Bemis, and has served as a curriculum consultant to numerous developing and established physical therapist educational programs.
Dr. Bemis serves as an on-site-visit team leader for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) American Physical Therapy Association. She typically makes two accreditation visits per year. Initially Dr. Bemis practiced as a generalist in acute care settings. Currently, she limits her practice to industrial physical therapy where she performs functional capacity evaluations through North Pittsburgh WorkAbility Center - her private practice located in Butler County, PA. Dr. Bemis teaches in a number of courses in the program including the clinical science course sequence.
