Ed Vargo - Head Coach

Head Coach - Ed Vargo

Ed Vargo (54-51-5) is set to begin his seventh season as Walsh's Head Women's Soccer Coach. Vargo, the first full-time coach in the sports history, led the Cavs to a 7-10 mark last season and to a fifth place tie (3-5)  in the very competitive South Division of the American Mideast Conference.

Vargo, who is also the Cavs softball coach, has elevated the program to new heights on the softball field. The Cavs have qualified for the Great Lakes Regional Tournament four times in the last ten years. They finished 40-14 overall and 23-2 in the AMC in 2000 and reached the elite eight at the NAIA World Series. Vargo led the Walsh Softball Program to back-to-back American Mideast Conference championships (1999, 2000) and to their only trips to the NAIA World Series (2000, 2003). Vargo is Walsh's all-time leader in wins with 343 and has been at the helm for 13 years. Last October he was inducted into the Summit County Softball Hall of Fame.

Vargo spent three years at Malone College before coming to Walsh. He initiated the fast-pitch program at Jackson-Milton High School in 1988 and served as a volunteer assistant at South Range High School.

A graduate of Woodridge High School, Vargo was an All-Suburban League halfback in football. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic from 1968-72.

Vargo joined the University's Computer Service Department in 1994. He is a 1976 graduate of Kent State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He earned his masters in Educational Foundations from the University of Akron in 1994. Ed and his wife Pat, of 34 years reside in Akron.
