Traditional UPB Events
Welcome Week
During the first week of classes in the Fall semester, all students are welcomed to Walsh University with a week-long series of events. The events that take place during this week range from novelty events such as caricature artists or a photo booth to watching a drive-in movie on the campus lawn. Past Welcome Week festivities have found students enjoying comedians such as Alexandra McHale or magicians/illusionists such as Justin Kredible. You won't want to miss out on all the fun that Welcome Week has to offer this year!
Fall Family Weekend

Fall Family Weekend occurs annually and provides a great opportunity for students to bring their families to campus for a few days to enjoy all of the high quality programming that we have to offer. The weekend starts out on Friday evening with different activities that provide families with the chance to learn more about Walsh’s history and ends with a drive-in movie in beautiful Hoover Park. Saturday offers a lot of different activities for families to take advantage of such as the President’s Breakfast, Family Weekend Tailgate and Football game at Fawcett Stadium, and the Fall Festival at Hoover Park. Be sure to check out the phenomenal fireworks display after dark to end your perfect day of Walsh fun! Sunday morning offers the Pancakes on Parade Breakfast in the early morning followed by the opportunity to attend mass in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel. We hope that you take advantage of spending your quality family time with us as a part of our Walsh University community.
Shape Sophomore Retreat
The Shape Sophomore Retreat is a two day leadership retreat that takes place in the fall semester at an off-campus location for students to take some time away from Walsh. The retreat is designed to launch students in to the next 3 years of their college experience. It has been determined that a student's sophomore year can be one of the most difficult for a couple reasons; the excitement of freshman year is over and a realization of what is ahead occurs. The retreat is intended to help "shape" each student's leadership potential. It is a great weekend to meet new people and learn more about yourself. Homecoming Week
Homecoming Week has been a lasting tradition at Walsh University and it is a weeklong series of events to celebrate the University. Leading up to Homecoming weekend, students within each class nominate and then vote for class representatives to be placed on the Homecoming court. The entire student body then votes and chooses its King & Queen which is announced at the Homecoming Game. During the week of Homecoming there are a variety of events each day and these events change yearly. Some past events include a hypnotist, comedians, Vegas Night, Fear Factor, a variety of novelty events, and more. All these events lead up to the annual Homecoming Tailgate at the Homecoming game, sponsored by the University Programming Board and the Alumni Association.
Coffee House Artists
Featured each semester, this arrangement of performances changes from year to year. From country to R&B, students get the sensational taste of the different sounds of music. Feeling inspired and relaxed in this coffeehouse setting, those who take part in witnessing these spectacular performances from upcoming and rising artists are served complimentary snacks and Starbucks coffee.
Movie Series
The movie series is a recent addition to the lineup of events sponsored by UPB. Twice a month, students have the opportunity to enjoy a pre-released movie in the University’s Theater located in Towers II. Often accompanied with popcorn and other movie snacks, students can take a break from homework and studying to enjoy blockbuster favorites with friends right on campus.
Game Room Challenge
At the beginning of each semester, students have the chance to leave their legacy at Walsh University. Held in the game room, students sign up to compete in a bracket for either billiards or table tennis. The winners of these tournaments have their names engraved and displayed on the plaques as the “Reigning Champ” for either billiards or table tennis. Spectators and participants can also enjoy the welcoming social atmosphere with complementary pizza and refreshments, while listening to the latest tunes.
Cosmic Bowling
Bingo
Ice Skating
Stay warm and bundle up because it’s time to hit the ice. Enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and 2 hours of ice time as UPB sponsors ice skating at Center Ice Sports Complex. Who Ice Skates you say? How about 300 students each semester! You won’t want to miss it!
Welcome Back Week
We did it once and will do it again as we welcome back students for the spring semester with another jam packed week of events. Ranging from novelty items, musicians, comedians, and more; students have the opportunity to reunite with friends and catch up from winter break with some fun.
Discover...Freshman Retreat
Held each Spring semester, the Freshman Retreat is an opportunity for first year students to take a weekend away from the University to learn more about themselves and to bond with their peers. Around 60 students participate in this retreat which is facilitated by other Walsh students and staff.

Spring Formal
One of the most popular events of the entire year, the Spring Formal has always had great reviews. Held annually at the McKinnely Grand Hotel, students enjoy an elegant semi-formal dance of an enchanted evening out on the town. Starting with a formal dinner, the night evolves as students make their way to the dance floor and get their groove on to the latest music.
