Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy

To meet our expanding program growth and research opportunities, Walsh University is pleased to announce a tenure track faculty position in the division of physical therapy. We seek an individual with a physical therapy degree who is licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio, a terminal doctoral degree, with a preferred background in epidemiology or public health, and a history of teaching and research. 

The Walsh University Physical Therapy curriculum is an intensive three-year (8-semester) program, including summers, which leads to a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Students gain knowledge and develop skills in teaching and scientific inquiry as well as physical therapy patient diagnosis and intervention. The program involves a heavy emphasis on clinical experiences and allows participation in elective courses during the student's final year. 

Research is threaded within the curriculum and students collaborate with clinical partners and faculty members. This tenure track position offers the opportunity to integrate with community clinical partners who are embedded in the Northeast corridor of Ohio, which is nationally and internationally recognized as a region of excellence in medical care. 

The teaching experience involves small class sizes and ample student-faculty interaction in a nurturing environment. The curriculum is integrated and offers an opportunity for teaching with novel methods of instruction. The core faculty members include eight highly motivated and tightly integrated physical therapists with a common goal of providing a positive educational experience for our students.

Occupational Therapy Program Director 

Walsh University seeks qualified candidates to fill the role of Program Director for the new Master of Occupational Therapy Graduate Program. The position is a 12 month, tenure-track eligible appointment. The successful candidate will coordinate the development of a new graduate occupational therapy program at Walsh University. 
The developing program is a six semester, post-bachelor master's degree, which is completed in 2 academic years.

Responsibilities

Opportunities will include developing the curricular philosophy, hiring and training departmental faculty, and creating a strategic plan for the department that is reflective of the mission of the university. The program is expected to function symbiotically with a thriving, well established physical therapy doctoral degree program, and other reputable academic programs at Walsh University. 

General responsibilities of the program director will include oversight of departmental organization, administration, and creation and implementation of policies; accreditation status maintenance; strategic planning, development, and review; financial planning; and ensuring ongoing program and faculty effectiveness. The program director will serve as a liaison to the academic leadership of the university. In addition, as full time faculty, the program director will also be involved in teaching, student and faculty mentoring, scholarly activities, and service to the University and beyond.  

Requirements

  • Registered (Certified) occupational therapist, eligible for Ohio licensure 
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy, including practice as an occupational therapist, administrative or supervisory experience, and at least 2 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities 
  • Research doctoral degree (preferred) or terminal doctorate degree 
  • Demonstrated skill in curriculum development, teaching, and administration (preferred) 
  • Record of scholarship success 
  • Professional commitment and dedication to service

Graduate Clinical Associate Professor of Nursing

The Walsh University School of Nursing is developing a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track in the Master's of Science in Nursing Program. The program will build on the current core courses within the Master's program, and include 18 additional hours of specialty content that will provide the students with the necessary foundations to be successful in achieving certification and in future practice arenas. The total credit hours for the FNP track will be 48 credits, with a minimum of 500 supervised clinical hours. The target date for implementation of the track is Fall Semester 2013. 

Credentialing requirements from Council on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and The National Task Force on Quality Practitioner Education require that the coordinator of the NP 
track be nationally certified in the particular NP population focus area of practice. This person will provide direct oversight for the nurse practitioner educational track. The faculty member will be responsible for the final development and implementation of these courses. This track is critical to a viable MSN program. The program cannot move forward without this expertise.

Requirements

  • MSN, FNP certification required; DNP or PhD preferred. 
  • As the lead NP faculty, the person provides direct oversight for the nurse practitioner education component or track. CCNE requires that the person evaluate students, interface with preceptors and serve as role models, as well as maintain currency in practice. 
  • Publication history relevant to practice, leadership or membership on health related advisory boards.
  • Experience developing clinical guidelines or implementation of evidence based projects. 
  • Current in clinical practice
