Instructional Services Librarian 

Walsh University invites suitable candidates to apply for the full-time, faculty position of Instructional Services Librarian, who will offer strategic leadership and health sciences experience to the Library.

Responsibilities 

The Instructional Services Librarian works collaboratively with library staff to develop, coordinate and provide instruction and consultation services to the campus community. This position works closely with the Student Engagement Librarian. Each librarian at our institution acts as a liaison to specific departments for instruction and collection development. The Instructional Services Librarian specializes in the health sciences, specifically, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and the behavioral sciences. 

Responsibilities include coordination of instruction services; presentations to classes on information literacy concepts and discipline-specific library resources; implementation of an embedded librarianship program; developing strategies for instruction and information literacy services to distance and online learners; providing reference assistance in person on demand, by appointment, or via the library’s chat service; collection development and maintenance; assessing the effectiveness of information literacy efforts; maintaining statistical information, and serving on appropriate committees. 

The successful candidate must have health sciences instruction experience, demonstrated a record of achievement sufficient for appointment to the rank of Specialty Faculty and should possess excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collegially as a member of a team; foster collaborative relationships; strong analytical and organizational skills; and excellent written and oral communication skills. The position requires weekend and evening hours, as well as occasional travel to our satellite campuses. 

Requirements 

A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of four years of experience with research and instruction programs in an academic library; undergraduate degree in the health sciences or previous experience as a health sciences liaison or librarian; experience with teaching information literacy in a college or university environment; demonstrated understanding of, and receptiveness to, the uses of emerging technologies and instructional design principles that support active learning; experience with
reference instruction and collection development in an academic library. 

Preferred: AHIP certification. Demonstrated experience with assessment tools and strategies. Knowledge of collection development tools and methods.

SPS Part Time Faculty Positions 

Walsh University's School for Professional Studies seeks Adjunct Faculty for campuses located in North Canton, Akron, Medina and Canfield.

Responsibilities 

The instructional responsibilities of an adjunct faculty for Walsh University’s School for Professional Studies include: 

1. Teaching in a “facilitative style”, allowing for the creation of an interactive classroom environment. 

2. Combining the adjunct’s previous experiences with relevant contemporary coursework in order to enhance the student’s learning experience. 

3. Incorporating instructional methods that are varied, appropriate to the teaching/learning process and appeal to various learning styles. 

4. Utilizing a “give feedback” and “get feedback” system in all courses taught. 

5. Assisting students with reaching their personal and professional goals by helping them attain skills in critical thinking, human relations, and oral and written communications. 

Courses meet evenings and/or Saturdays for four hours once a week over a 5 or 8 week interval. Weeknight classes run from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. – Saturday classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon.   

Requirements 

Master’s Degree and three years of work experience for non-business courses. Master’s Degree and five years relevant work experience for business courses.

Assistant Professor of Physiology 

Walsh University’s School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Physiology beginning fall 2015.

Physical Therapy Assistant/Associate Faculty

The Walsh University Physical Therapy curriculum is an intensive three-year (8-semester) program, including summers, which leads to a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Students gain knowledge and develop skills in scientific inquiry as well as physical therapy patient diagnosis and intervention. Exercise Science Program Director

 

Walsh University is seeking a Program Director for the Undergraduate program in Exercise Science within the Division of Health Sciences.

Walsh University invites applications from qualified individuals to serve as the Program Director of Exercise Science.  This is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment with rank commensurate with experience.   The Program Director will be instrumental in the oversight and advancement of the undergraduate programs as well as the development of the Master of Science degree program in Exercise Science.  Walsh University offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science with a divergent focus in health, physical education, pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy.

We are seeking a dynamic leader who is able to teach and work with faculty and clinical partners to develop, implement, and advance the vision and mission of the Exercise Science program in coordination with the other programs within the Division of Health Sciences.  Currently, the Division of Health Sciences also includes a Doctor of Physical Therapy program and a developing Master of Science program in Occupational Therapy.

The Program Director reports directly to the Chair of the Division of Health Sciences.  This person plays a vital role in the academic administration providing a connection between the faculty and administration within the Division of Health Sciences.  The Program Director is responsible for managing the daily operations within the programs; program development and assessment consistent with accreditation requirements; marketing and recruitment of students; academic advising; mentoring student research; development and supervision of experiential experiences; program expenditures and budgets; faculty and staff; university governance; strategic planning initiatives and implementation.  Primary academic responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service.

The preferred candidate will possess:
• Expertise in Exercise Science academic administration
• Experience with the ACSM certification process
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Experience with the development and supervision of student internships
• A record of scholarly productivity
• A record of professional service
• Effective management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Contemporary understanding of trends and opportunities in Exercise Science, Health Sciences, and inter-professional education
• A clearly articulated vision for Exercise Science education

Minimum Qualifications
• An earned terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, other) in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology
• An academic background appropriate for appointment as a Program Director
• Ongoing scholarly activity including a well-defined scholarly agenda and peer-reviewed publications and presentations
• A minimum of three years of full-time higher education experience in Exercise Science
• An ability and willingness to develop and teach courses in the person’s area of expertise
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• An ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students within the Division and across the Institution.
