Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry 

Walsh University’s School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry beginning fall 2015.

Responsibilities 

This faculty position involves teaching 24 semester hours per academic year of chemistry courses and/or labs to undergraduate students majoring in chemistry or biology. Successful candidates will be expected to engage undergraduates in research, advising, mentoring and effective classroom learning experiences and faculty colleagues in chemistry curriculum development and assessment. 

Teaching responsibilities may include sections of freshman principles of chemistry, sophomore organic chemistry, nursing chemistry (courses or labs) and upper level chemistry courses, labs or research experiences. Preferred candidates must be able to integrate modern technology, innovative teaching methods and interactive learning in classes and labs. 

In addition to teaching and scholarship, professional responsibilities also include collaboration in Divisional and School related planning and operations, appropriate University committee duties and general service to the University community. Requirements

The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, possess excellent teaching skills, strength in synthetic organic chemistry (especially “green” synthesis) and a desire to work in a collaborative and innovative learning environment focused on undergraduate student success. Prior successful  undergraduate teaching experience in chemistry is desirable and a successful candidate is expected to establish a productive research program to which undergraduate students can actively contribute. Director of Bands 

Walsh University is seeking a Director of Bands for academic year 2014-2015. Must work cooperatively within the supportive environment of a quickly growing and evolving music program offering its first ever music major in 2015. This is a full-time faculty position, with salary and rank to be determined by qualifications and experience.

*Teach one academic course per semester based on skills and experience of the candidate (Music Theory, Music History, or General-Education Music courses)

*Master’s degree with at least 18 hours in music

*Experience directing bands at the secondary level

Physical Therapy Assistant/Associate Faculty

 

Walsh University is pleased to announce a faculty position in the Physical Therapy program. 

The Walsh University Physical Therapy curriculum is an intensive three-year (8-semester) program, including summers, which leads to a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Students gain knowledge and develop skills in scientific inquiry as well as physical therapy patient diagnosis and intervention. The program involves a heavy emphasis on clinical experiences and allows participation in elective courses during the student’s final year.

Requirements

We seek an individual who is licensed or eligible for physical therapy licensure in the state of Ohio. The ideal candidate should have an earned terminal degree (PhD, ScD, EdD, etc.) or physical therapy degree with advanced clinical practice certification and significant clinical experience, and teaching experience in a physical therapy education program. Ideally, this individual would possess a clinical practice background in acute care, acute rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility settings.

Exercise Science Program Director

 

Walsh University is seeking a Program Director for the Undergraduate program in Exercise Science within the Division of Health Sciences.

Walsh University invites applications from qualified individuals to serve as the Program Director of Exercise Science.  This is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment with rank commensurate with experience.   The Program Director will be instrumental in the oversight and advancement of the undergraduate programs as well as the development of the Master of Science degree program in Exercise Science.  Walsh University offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science with a divergent focus in health, physical education, pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy.

We are seeking a dynamic leader who is able to teach and work with faculty and clinical partners to develop, implement, and advance the vision and mission of the Exercise Science program in coordination with the other programs within the Division of Health Sciences.  Currently, the Division of Health Sciences also includes a Doctor of Physical Therapy program and a developing Master of Science program in Occupational Therapy.

The Program Director reports directly to the Chair of the Division of Health Sciences.  This person plays a vital role in the academic administration providing a connection between the faculty and administration within the Division of Health Sciences.  The Program Director is responsible for managing the daily operations within the programs; program development and assessment consistent with accreditation requirements; marketing and recruitment of students; academic advising; mentoring student research; development and supervision of experiential experiences; program expenditures and budgets; faculty and staff; university governance; strategic planning initiatives and implementation.  Primary academic responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service.

The preferred candidate will possess:
• Expertise in Exercise Science academic administration
• Experience with the ACSM certification process
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Experience with the development and supervision of student internships
• A record of scholarly productivity
• A record of professional service
• Effective management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Contemporary understanding of trends and opportunities in Exercise Science, Health Sciences, and inter-professional education
• A clearly articulated vision for Exercise Science education

Minimum Qualifications
• An earned terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, other) in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology
• An academic background appropriate for appointment as a Program Director
• Ongoing scholarly activity including a well-defined scholarly agenda and peer-reviewed publications and presentations
• A minimum of three years of full-time higher education experience in Exercise Science
• An ability and willingness to develop and teach courses in the person’s area of expertise
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• An ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students within the Division and across the Institution.

Assistant Professor

The nationally accredited Division of Education is seeking candidates with university teaching experience and a minimum of three years K-12 teaching experience. Teaching experience in the areas of Adolescent and Young Adult/Secondary Education Math or Science is preferred.

This is a new position with the opportunity to develop undergraduate content and curriculum in digital media and technology.
