Exercise Science Program Director

 

Walsh University is seeking a Program Director for the Undergraduate program in Exercise Science within the Division of Health Sciences.

Walsh University invites applications from qualified individuals to serve as the Program Director of Exercise Science.  This is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment with rank commensurate with experience.   The Program Director will be instrumental in the oversight and advancement of the undergraduate programs as well as the development of the Master of Science degree program in Exercise Science.  Walsh University offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science with a divergent focus in health, physical education, pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy.

We are seeking a dynamic leader who is able to teach and work with faculty and clinical partners to develop, implement, and advance the vision and mission of the Exercise Science program in coordination with the other programs within the Division of Health Sciences.  Currently, the Division of Health Sciences also includes a Doctor of Physical Therapy program and a developing Master of Science program in Occupational Therapy.

The Program Director reports directly to the Chair of the Division of Health Sciences.  This person plays a vital role in the academic administration providing a connection between the faculty and administration within the Division of Health Sciences.  The Program Director is responsible for managing the daily operations within the programs; program development and assessment consistent with accreditation requirements; marketing and recruitment of students; academic advising; mentoring student research; development and supervision of experiential experiences; program expenditures and budgets; faculty and staff; university governance; strategic planning initiatives and implementation.  Primary academic responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service.

The preferred candidate will possess:
• Expertise in Exercise Science academic administration
• Experience with the ACSM certification process
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Experience with the development and supervision of student internships
• A record of scholarly productivity
• A record of professional service
• Effective management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Contemporary understanding of trends and opportunities in Exercise Science, Health Sciences, and inter-professional education
• A clearly articulated vision for Exercise Science education

Minimum Qualifications
• An earned terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, other) in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology
• An academic background appropriate for appointment as a Program Director
• Ongoing scholarly activity including a well-defined scholarly agenda and peer-reviewed publications and presentations
• A minimum of three years of full-time higher education experience in Exercise Science
• An ability and willingness to develop and teach courses in the person’s area of expertise
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• An ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students within the Division and across the Institution.

Adjunct Faculty Position 

The DeVille School of Business at Walsh University is interested in expanding its pool of qualified adjunct faculty to instruct a variety of business and economics related coursework in undergraduate and MBA programs. Examples of course areas include: accounting; finance; global business; healthcare anagement; management; marketing; statistics and quantitative analysis.

The undergraduate business program operates on a 15-week semester, while the MBA Program operates on two eight-week sessions during any given semester.

The opportunity to teach is offered on a by-semester basis to qualified instructors who have successfully participated in a faculty assessment process and completed a semester mentoring program. Instruction may include traditional in-class, eLearning or hybrid course delivery.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

•An MBA or master’s degree in economics or business-related area.

•Five years of professional or work related experience in the teaching area.

•For accounting coursework, a CPA is preferred.

Assistant Professor

Walsh University invites applications (rank open) for a tenure-track position in the Division of Education beginning Fall 2015.

The nationally accredited Division of Education is seeking candidates with university teaching experience and a minimum of three years K-12 teaching experience. Teaching experience in the areas of Adolescent and Young Adult/Secondary Education Math or Science is preferred.

Assistant Professor of Digital Media

Walsh University’s School of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Digital Media beginning fall 2015.

This is a new position with the opportunity to develop undergraduate content and curriculum in digital media and technology. Applicants will collaborate with faculty colleagues to integrate digital media into computer science and communication studies. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to teach technology and theory in an experiential environment.

This faculty position involves teaching 24 semester hours per academic year of computer science related courses to undergraduate student majoring in computer science with specializations in programming and/or networking. Successful candidates will be expected to engage undergraduates in research, advising, mentoring and effective classroom learning experiences and faculty colleagues in curriculum development and assessment.

Teaching responsibilities include basic survey courses in computer science, courses from among database design and management, programming languages, operating systems, networking basics, and hardware and software components. Other areas of instruction, depending on the candidate’s additional expertise, may include web design, app development, or mobile computing application.

Occupational Therapy Program Director

Walsh University (North Canton, Ohio) seeks qualified candidates to fill the role of program director for the new Master of Occupational Therapy Graduate Program. The position is a 12 month, tenure-track eligible appointment. The successful candidate will coordinate the development of a new graduate occupational therapy program at Walsh University.

The proposed program is a six semester, post-bachelor, master’s degree, which is completed in 2 academic years (4 + 2). The program will be housed in a newly developed Division of Health Sciences at Walsh University’s main campus, and the individuals within the program will work symbiotically with other well established health-related academic programs at Walsh University. A burgeoning pre-occupational therapy program exists at Walsh University and will provide a strong flow of future occupational therapy program admissions. Walsh University also has a thriving faculty development program on campus.
