Programming Themes The Resident Assistant team assigned to Alexis and Menard Halls are each provided with a specific theme that caters to the holistic development of the first year student population. First year residents are provided with the opportunity to take part in a variety of programs throughout the fall and spring semesters. The FYRE program categories include: Alcohol & Drugs: Get the Facts Learn the truth about the effects of alcohol and drugs. Get the Facts is specifically geared toward increasing students' knowledge regarding the potential safety, health, social, academic, and legal consequences of substance abuse. Topics will explore responsible decision-making as well as promote student lead initiatives to create proactive prevention education. Personal Perspectives: Your Voice Matters Let your voice be heard! Personal Perspectives identifies the importance of being a responsible citizen. As students begin to form their personal ideologies, it’s important to recognize the political, social, and environmental issues that impact our world. Learn about how you can become a voice of change and make a difference within our global community. Discovering Your Resources Find your way at Interactive Leadership Interactive Leadership introduces students to leaders within the Alexis/Menard: There’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition! Battle of the Halls is designed to build collaborative programs among floors in Alexis and Menard Hall. Learn the about the importance of communication, teamwork, and community development. Meet residents living within other first-year communities and take part in a variety of collaborative programs that promote floor pride. The Cavalier Commitment Show us your school spirit! The Cavalier Commitment focuses upon building a community that recognizes the mission and values of Appreciating Diversity Achieve Your Personal Best This theme is ideal for students whose focus is on their academics and scholarly pursuits. Programmatic emphasis will be in areas of academic success, group tutoring, and campus involvement. These activities will not only promote stress-management, but also compliment the student’s academic experiences. Learn about the importance of how to remain mentally “strong” in the face of a rigorous college career. Healthy Living As a college student, it’s vital to learn the skills to maintain a healthy and vibrant lifestyle. Healthy Living places an emphasis on physical activity, nutrition, and making use of health and wellness resources on campus. Learn the basics to developing a healthy college lifestyle. To a Deeper Faith To a Deeper Faith examines the theological roots of the Judeo-Christian tradition and the impact of that tradition on the contemporary world. Students will also learn ways to develop their own personal faith commitment through interaction and programs with Campus Ministry and local places of worship. Thriving on Balance Learning to balance your life is an important part of the college experience. Thriving on Balance is a theme created to help students manage the needs of the mind, body and soul. Developing effective strategies to address time management eliminate stress, and practice self-care is vital part of being a successful college student. Gain the tools necessary to thrive in and out of the classroom! Media in the 21st Century Media in the 21st Century will explore a variety of media including film, television, print, theatre and the internet. Join the commentary on world events, explore the hidden meaning behind your favorite movie, watch a Broadway musical, or discover an innovative journalist.
