"Cavs Open 16th Season at Home"

Walsh opens its 16th season at home (Fawcett Stadium) against Kentucky Christian University this Saturday at 12pm, free tickets are available at Giant Eagle in Washington Square in North Canton, right across the street from Walsh University.  Magnet schedules will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans.  The opener will be broadcast live on AM 900 WCER and News-Talk 640 AM WHLO and will be televised (tape delay) at 6 pm on SportsTime Ohio.
The NAIA 16th ranked Cavs and Kentucky Christian (0-1) are meeting for the first time.  The Cavs finished 8-3 last year and ranked 16th in the final NAIA poll, narrowly missing the playoffs.  Walsh will be without 1,000-yard tailback Clinton Blossomgame (5-11, 208. Sr. Columbus, OH/Beechcroft), who is undergoing surgery on his left knee today.  He is expected back for the fifth game.  Toba Olarewaju (5-10, 191, So., Youngstown, OH/Christian) will start in his place. 

Walsh is 10-5 in season openers and 13-2 in home openers.  They defeated Ohio Dominican University 23-16 in their home opener last year, but lost the season opener 48-17 at West Liberty.  Head Coach Jim Dennison is the only coach in Cavs’ history (104-59) and is in his 29th year (184-121-2) overall.
This will be game number two for Kentucky Christian.  They lost 34-7 at Campbellsville last Saturday.  The Knights finished 1-10 last year and 1-8 in the Mid-South Conference.

"Giant Eagle at Washington Square Sponsors Ticket Give-Away for Walsh University Football Home Opener/Game to be Televised on STO"

Tickets for Walsh's first home football game on Saturday, September 4 against Kentucky Christian at Fawcett Stadium will be available free of charge at the Giant Eagle in Washington Square, directly across the street from Walsh.  Tickets are available now.  Magnet schedules will be given out to the first 1,000 fans through the gates.  At halftime, Walsh will honor its outstanding athletes from last season, including the top spring grade point averages from each sport, championship teams, and the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.  Game time is 12 pm.  The game will also be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO) later in the day.  Walsh also has plans to televise men's and women's basketball on STO.  Details will be announced when they become finalized. 

The NAIA No. 16 ranked Cavs play six home games, three in September, two in October and one in November.  The Cavs host Quincy University on Saturday, September 11 at 12 pm.  Walsh's homecoming game is Saturday, September 25 vs. Urbana University at 12 pm.  Walsh plays host to Taylor University on Saturday, October 16 at 11 am and Malone University on Saturday, October 23 at 12 pm.  The Cavs final home game is on Saturday, November 6 against Trinity University at 11 am.

The Hudson High School Marching Band will perform at the opener, with the Canton McKinley High School Marching Band performing at the Quincy, Taylor, Malone and Trinity games.  Walsh's own Pride Band will perform for the Homecoming Game on September 25.

All football games will be broadcast live on the Walsh University Football Network (900 WCER AM, News-Talk 640 WHLO AM) and will be streamed live on the internet at www.wcer.us and www.640whlo.com.
