Jacobs Gary



 

Dr. Gary Jacobs is an Associate Professor of Intervention Specialist Education and Director of Graduate Education Studies at Walsh University. He holds a B.S. from Kent State University, a M.A. from Antioch University and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Jacobs joined the Walsh faculty in 2000.     


Teaching
Dr. Jacobs teaches ISE 342 (Assessment in Intervention Planning), ISE243 (Positive Learning Environments), and ECE410/ISE441 (Pre-Clinical Practice).  He has previously taught courses including but not limited to: ISE 343 (Curriculum and Adaptive Strategies), ISE245 (Family, Schools, and Community), EDUC206 (Individuals with Exceptionalities), ISE348 (Language Arts and Social Studies Methods for Students with Special Needs), ISE349 (Math and Science Methods for Students with Special Needs), ISE245 (Transition), EDF606 (Accommodating Learners with Special Needs), and EDT 670 (Positive Strategies in Discipline).  He advises students in the Graduate program as well as undergraduates in Early Childhood Education, Intervention Specialise Education, and Early Childhood Intervention Specialist Education. 
 
Scholarship
Dr. Jacobs attended the NCATE Institutional Orientation in September of 2005.  His research interests include intervention strategies for children with learning disabilities and behavior disorders, as well as classroom management strategies.  He has presented/published at various regional, state, and international conferences.   he most recently presented with Janet Devine at the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders in Dallas, TX and at OCTEO in April 2007.   
 
Service
Dr. Jacobs is an active member of campus committes including: the Graduate Council (Chair);  Instruction and Academic Policy; Retention, Tenure and Promotion; Faculty Forum, Freshman Orientation, and Graduate Culture.  Within the Division of Education, Dr. Jacobs serves as Director of Graduate Studies.  He also serves the Division as a member of the ACE Committee, Budget Committee, and various searches.  Dr. Jacobs established and serves as Co-Advisor for the Walsh University Council for Exceptional Children.  He volunteers by providing team-building training at local elementary schools, as well as work in local churches.
