"Cavs Finish Second at USF Invitational/Smith"
(Kendallville, Indiana) Walsh (6-1) finished second to Bethel College at the eight-team USF Cougar Invitational. Walsh shot 651 (325-326) at the 36-hole event, 26 strokes back of the first place Pilots (320-305/625). Walsh finished 16 strokes ahead of third-place Wheaton College. The second round was played at Cobblestone Golf Course.
Kim Smith (Jr., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) pictured left finished second, two strokes back of tournament medalist Jessica Layman from Bethel, after carding a pair of 77's (154).
Katy Collins (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) finished eighth (81-83=164), Nikki Kulasa (Jr., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) tied for 11th (84-84=168), Abbey Kimar (Jr., Canton, OH/Jackson) (83-87=170) and Katie Kohut (So., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) tied for 17th (88-82=180) and Chloe Campisi (Fr., Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) finished 25th (99-77=176).

"Cavs Win at Indiana Tech; Smith Medalist"
New Haven, IN) NAIA No. 23 Walsh (100-29) defeated host Indiana Tech by 28 strokes to win the Indiana Tech Spring Invitational. Walsh shot 317 today, to finish with a two-day score of 637. Indiana Tech shot 665 and the University of Northwestern Ohio 706.
Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) LEFT finished as tournament medalist with a 36-hole total of 156 (77-79). Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) finished second at 157 (78-79). Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) finished fourth at 161 (82-79), Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) was fifth at 163 (83-80) and Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) tied for seventh at 166 (85-81).

"Cavs Lead Pack After First Round at indiana Tech"
(New Haven, IN) NAIA No. 23 Walsh (98-29) leads host Indiana Tech by five strokes after the first round of the Indiana Tech Spring Invitational. Walsh shot 320, Indiana Tech 325 and third place University of Northwestern Ohio 345. Round two is scheduled for a 9 am tee time at the Whispering Creek Golf Club tomorrow morning.
Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) LEFT and Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) are one and two after the first round. Smith fired a 77 and Kulasa a 78. Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) carded an 82, Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) an 83 and Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) an 85.

"Cavs Jump Two Spots to 23rd in Latest NAIA Poll"
Walsh (98-29) has moved up two spots to 23rd in the latest (fourth) NAIA Coaches' Poll. The Cavs, who captured the American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship this week, received 99 votes. Walsh is awaiting word on whether they will receive an at-large berth to the NAIA Championships (May 25-28) in Rapid City, South Dakota.

"Cavs Capture Second Straight AMC Championship, All Five Players First-Team All-AMC/Longanecker Coach of the Year"
NAIA No. 25 Walsh (98-29) has captured the American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship for the second straight season, and will now wait to see if they will earn a berth to the compete in the NAIA Championships (May 25-28) in Rapid City, South Dakota for the second consecutive season. Walsh dominated play by capturing five of the first six places.
Walsh vaulted to a 27-stroke lead yesterday, after shooting an opening round 331. The Cavs shot 348 today and finished with a 36-hole total of 681, 43 strokes ahead of second place Malone University (724). The University of Northwestern Ohio finished third (749) and Ursuline College finished fourth (801).
After an opening round 79, Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) carded a 91 today and finished with a 36-hole total of 170, good for second place and four strokes behind medalist Elena Duncan (82-84=166) from Malone University.
Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) (84-87) finished tied for third with teammate Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) (83-88) at 171

NAIA No. 25 Walsh (95-29) leads the American Mideast Conference Championships by 27 strokes after the first day of the 36-hole tournament. The defending champion Cavs shot 331, Malone University 360, University of Northwestern Ohio 381 and Ursuline University 396.
Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) leads the pact after firiing am opening round 79. Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) is third after an 83, Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) is fourth after an 83, Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) is sixth after an 87 and Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) is seventh after a 90.
The Cavs first group tees off at 10:15 tomorrow morning.

"Cavs Win Third Straight Tournament"
(Erie, PA) NAIA No. 25 Walsh (95-29) won its third straight tournament by capturing the 15-team Gannon University Spring Invitational today. The Cavs finished at 651 (338-323), five strokes ahead of second place West Liberty University (656).
Walsh's consistent play shows in their totals today, as four strokes separate the players. Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) finished sixth with a two-day total of 162 (80-82). Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) finished seventh, one stroke behind Collins at 163 (83-80). Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) tied for eighth at 164 (83-81). Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) tied for 12th at 165 (82-83) and Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) tied for 14th at 166 (86-80).
Next up for the Cavs is the American Mideast Conference Championships, next Monday and Tuesday at Berkshire Golf Course in Chesterland, Ohio. Walsh is the defending champs. The NAIA Tournament berth is at stake.

"Cavs Lead Gannon Spring Invite by Five Strokes"
(Erie, PA) NAIA No. 25 Walsh (81-29) leads the 15-team at the Gannon University Spring Invitational by five strokes after the first round of the 36-hole tournament. Walsh shot 328 and leads West Liberty University, who scored 333. Kutztown University and Ohio Valley College are tied for third place at 346 and host Gannon is fourth at 349. Final round play will start Monday at noon.
Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) shot a 38 on the back nine and is in fourth place with a first round 80 (42-38). Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) is tied for ninth at 82 (42-40). Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) (44-39) and Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) (41-42) are tied for ninth place after carding 83, and Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) is tied for 21st place with an 86 (44-42).

NAIA No. 25 Walsh (81-29) won the 16-team Mercyhurst Women's Golf Invitational by one stroke over Allegheny College today. The Cavs shot 326, Allegheny 327. Walsh will stay in Erie and play in the Gannon University Spring Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the Lake Shore Country Club. Action begins at 12 pm.

"Cavs Fight Elements, Win at Mt. Union"
(Alliance, OH) Walsh (66-29) battled the elements today to capture the Mount Union College Spring Invitational by 12 strokes over second place Mercyhurst College. The Cavs shot 363 today and finished with a two-day total of 712. Mercyhurst, cut two strokes off the Cavs lead in the final round, but finished with a 36-hole total of 724.
Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) finished fourth and paced the Cavs with a two-day total of 170 (82-88). Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) tied for seventh at 176 (90-86), Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) finished 11th at 179 (88-91), Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) tied for 20th at 191 (89-102) and Courtney Klemens (So., Mentor, OH/HS) finished 30th at 203 (105-98).
Nikki Barr (Fr., Canton, OH/South) and Ashley Winston (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/HS) played as individuals. Barr finished 22nd with a 36-hole total of 192 (95-97) and Winston was 25th at 196 (102-94).

"Cavs Lead Mt. Union Invitational After First Round/Smith Two Shots Back"
(Alliance, OH) Walsh (58-29) leads the Mt. Union College Invitational by 14 strokes after the first round of the 36-hole tournament. Round two has been moved up to 9 am tomorrow morning due to impending weather.
Walsh shot 349, 14 strokes better than second place Mercyhurst College (363). The host Purple Raiders are third (365).
Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) is two shots back of the leader, after an opening round 82. (42-40). Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) is tied for sixth after carding an 88 (46-42). "Cavs 24th in First Regular Season Coaches Poll"
Walsh (58-29) received 108 points and stand alone at number 24 in the NAIA's first coaches poll of the season. The Cavs were tied for 24th with Lewis-Clark State College (ID) in the NAIA's Preseason Top 25. Walsh won the American Mideast Conference Tournament last year to advance to the NAIA Championships

"Cavs Tied for 24th in NAIA Preseason Top 25"
Walsh received 108 points and tied with Lewis-Clark State College (ID) in the NAIA's Preseason Top 25 at number 24. Oklahoma City University received 11 first place votes and 401 total points to hold the NAIA's top spot.
The Cavs finished 58-29 this past fall. Last season, they won the American Mideast Conference Championship and advanced to the NAIA National Championships. Walsh is the only AMC team in the top 25.

"Kulasa Medalist at Pat Clouse Invitational/But Cavs Finish Second"
Walsh's (58-29) Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) fired a 78 today, to finish with a 36-hole total of 155 (77-78) to capture medalist honors at the Pat Clouse Invitational hosted by Wittenburg University. For Kulasa, it is the third time this season that she has captured medalist honors. She also won honors at Ohio Dominican's Kiser Classic and at the Walsh Invitational. Unfortunately for the Cavs, they wasted a ten stroke leading heading into the final round and finished two strokes back of champion University of Findlay. The Cavs shot 327 to finish with a two-day total of 646 (319-327), while the Oilers shot 314 today to finish at 644 (330-314).

The Walsh University women’s golf team is currently leading DePauw University by 10 strokes for first place in the 16-team Pat Clouse Invitational hosted by Wittenburg University with one round to play.
Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) is tied for second place after shooting 77 (38-39). Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) is in sixth place with a 78 (37-41). Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) and Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) are tied for 12th with both scoring an 82 (41-41), and Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) shot 86 (42-44) and is tied for 28th.
The second and final round will be played tomorrow morning.

Walsh (44-28) finished second at the nine-team Allegheney Invitational today. The Cavs shot 322 and finished six strokes back of Allegheny College. The Cavs are at the Wittenberg University Pat Clouse Invitational at Windy Knoll GC in Springfield, Ohio this Saturday and Sunday.

"Cavs Place 14th at Zippy Invitational"
(Fairlawn, OH) Walsh (37-27) finished 14th at the 54-hole Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron. Grand Valley State won the invitational with a final score of 932. Walsh, playing with mostly NCAA division one schools, scored 1051, just five strokes back of 13th place Robert Morris University (PA).
Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) tied fof 66th place, with a 54-hole score of 262 (86-88-88). Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) bounced back after an opening round 94 to shoot 81 and 88 and finish 71st (263). The tournament's second round was suspended due to darkness and will be resumed at 9 a.m. Tuesday before the third and final round of the event. Walsh shot 352 and trail 11th place Bowling Green and Cleveland State by just nine strokes. Grand Valley State leads the field of 15 teams after an opening round 311 and leads the University of Toledo by one stroke.

"Cavs Win at ODU/Kulasa Medalist"
It was a good week for the Cavs (36-14). After a fifth place finish at the DePauw Classic, Walsh won the 12-team Ohio Dominican University Kiser Classic over the weekend, with Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) earning medalist honors at Ohio Dominican. This week the Cavs play at the University of Akron Zippy Invitational on Monday and Tuesday and play on Thursday at Allegheny College and at the Phipps Memorial at Glenmoor Country Club.

"Cavs 5th at DePauw Classic"
(Clayton, IN) Walsh (26-14) finished fifth at the 16-team DePauw Small College Classic this weekend. Lightning halted first round play on Saturday, but with clearing skies the classic was complete today. Walsh shot 672 (333-339), finishing just eight strokes behind fourth place Franklin College. Saint Mary's College (IN) won the classic with a 36-hole score of 635.
Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) finished 12th with a two day total of 163 (82-81). Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored 167 (83-84) to finish tied for 18th. Katie Kohut (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) shot 171 (83-88) and finished tied for 27th. "Cavs 11th at Princeton Invitational/Win Classic-Kulasa Medalist"
Walsh (15-10) opened the week by winning the Walsh Fall Classic and closed the week with a 11th place finish at the prestigious Princeton University Invitational. This week, the Cavs travel to Clayton, Indiana on Saturday and Sunday for the DePauw University Small College Classic.
Walsh captured six of the top ten places in winning their own fall classic held at Sanctuary Golf Club. The Cavs finished with a two-day total of 647, 35 strokes better than second place Trevecca Nazarene University (682). Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) shot a personal best 76, to captured medalist honors with a two-day total of 159 (83-76). Kulasa earned all-tournament team honors along with Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson), who finished second at 162 (83-79). Kimar's second day 79 was also a personal best. Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was also named to the all-tournament. Smith tied for fourth place with a 164 (81-83). "Cavs 11th After First Round at Princeton Invitational"
Walsh is 11th (344) after the first round of the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, NJ. Harvard leads the field at 301. The final round is Monday.
Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) leads the Cavs and is tied for 36th place after an opening round 83 (42-41). Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and Katie Kohut (Fr.) Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) are tied for 48th after shooting 86. Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) is tied for 57th after shooting 89 and Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) is tied for 60th (91).

"Walsh University Wins Fall Classic/Kulasa Medalist"
Walsh (14-0) captured six of the top ten places in winning their own fall classic held at Sanctuary Golf Club. Walsh finished with a two-day total of 647, 35 strokes better than second place Trevecca Nazarene University (682).
Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) shot a personal best 76, to captured medalist honors with a two-day total of 159 (83-76). Kulasa earned all-tournament team honors along wtih Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson), who finished second at 162 (83-79). Kimar's second day 79 was also a personal best. Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was also named to the all-tournament. Smith tied for fourth place with a 164 (85-79).
Katie Kohut (Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) tied for 7th at 166 (81-85), with teammates Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) (82-84) and Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) (83-83).
Nikki Barr (Fr., Canton, OH/South) tied for 25th (85-89=184), Ashley Winston (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/HS) finished 28th (91-96=187) and Courtney Klemens (So., Mentor, OH/HS) tied for 36th (97-99=196).

"Cavs Take 12-Stroke to Final Round of Walsh Invitational"
Walsh takes a 12-stroke lead into the final round of the Walsh University Invitational, being held at the Sanctuary Golf Course in North Canton. The final 18 holes will be played tomorrow morning (9 am). The Cavs shot 329. Trevecca Nazarene University is second after scoring 341. Ohio Dominican University is third (345), Ohio Northern University fourth (353), University of Northwestern Ohio fifth (362), Denison University sixth (387), Malone University seventh (390), Urbana University eighth (394), Lake Erie College ninth (421) and Notre Dame College tenth (536).
Freshman Katie Kohut (Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) fired a 81 (38-43) and is tied for second place. Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) is tied for fourth after an opening round 82 (39-43). Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) is tied for sixth at 83 (40-43) with teammate Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) (41-42) and Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) is tied for tenth at 85 (38-47).
On the Cavs "B" Team, Katy Collins (So., Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) shot 83 (41-42), Nikki Barr (Fr., Canton, OH/South) 85 (41-44), Ashley Winston 91 (Fr., Twinsburg, OH/HS) (45-46) and Courtney Klemens (So., Mentor, OH/HS) 97 (49-48).

"Cavs Host Invitational"
The undefeated Cavs (5-0) will host the Walsh Invitational at Sanctuary Golf Course on Monday (10 am) and Tuesday (9 am). The Cavs have been idle since winning the University of Northwestern Ohio Invitational on August 28/29.

"Cavs Capture Racer Invitational, Smith Medalist"
(Lima, OH) Walsh (5-0) captured their first tournament title of the season, winning the UNOH Racer Invitational by 22 strokes over second place University of Saint Francis (IN) (656). Walsh shot 317 each day, to finish with a two-day total of 634. Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) captured medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 151. Smith fired a 72 on Friday and a 79 today. She was named to the All-Tournament team with teammates Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) and freshman Katie Kohut (Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit). Kulasa and Kohut tied for second place. Kulasa shot a 78 today and finished with 36-hole total of 158. Kohut scored a final round 77, after shooting 81 yesterday. Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) finished with a two-day total of 167 (84-83) and Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) finished 15th, with a 172 (85-87).

"Cavs Lead by NIne Strokes, Smith Six Strokes Up"
(Lima, OH) Walsh leads by nine strokes after the first round of the UNOH Racer Invitational. The final 18 holes will be played Saturday morning, with a shotgun start set for 9 am. Walsh shot an opening round 317 and lead the University of Saint Francis (IN) by nine strokes (326). The host Racers are third (342) in the six-team field.
Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) shot a pair of 36's, to finish at 72. She has a six stroke lead. Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) is tied for third after shooting 80 (39-41). Freshman Katie Kohut (Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) is fifth after scoring 81 (41-40). Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) is tied for 8th with an 84 (39-45) and Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Howland) is tied for 10th (40-45=85).

"Ozanich Signs with Walsh"
Kelsey Ozanich (see picture above) has signed a NAIA National Letter of Intent to continue her athletic and academic career at Walsh in the fall of 2009. Ozanich is a four year letter winner from Howland High School in Warren, Ohio. Ozanich was named MVP and First Team All-Conference in 2007 and 2008. She also earned Second Team All-Northeast Ohio in 2008. Ozanich was a district qualifier all four years of her high school career and was a state qualifier in 2008. She is also a four year recipient of the Academic Award and is a member of the National Honors Society.
Kelsey is the daughter of Steve and Susan Ozanich and plans to major in psychology while attending Walsh University.
