2012 Walsh University Golf Outlook

Head Coach Anthony Risaliti and Assistant Coach Brant Harbert once again have a young roster for the 2012 campaign, but it's one full of returning players. The team is comprised of three seniors, five sophomores, six juniors, and nine freshmen. The team plans to be very competitive this spring, coming off a very promising fall season. The 2012 team captains are Cody Cutright (Sr., Akron, OH/Springfield) and Collin Mottice (Sr., Green, OH/Manchester).

W ith the substantial size of the roster, in-team qualifying will be very competitive this season as there are 23 guys battling it out for five varsity spots. Blake Foutty (Fr., Canal Fulton, OH/ Northwest) and Brandon Shannon (Fr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Woodridge) are new to the squad but already are expected to make a big impact on the team. Both Foutty and Shannon have a strong level of experience for freshmen and won individual titles in the fall. They will likely be among the scoring leaders on the team.

Cutright and Dennis Finneran (Jr., Wadsworth, OH/HS) look to be in the starting five for Walsh. Cutright led the Cavs last year with an average low of 78.46. Finneran’s season average was 81.03. The fifth and final spot will see strong in-squad competition between newcomers Tyler Bornstein (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) and Eric Bowman (So., Alliance, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas).

Also look for Mottice and Chuck Demchak (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) to see varsity playing time and contribute to the team’s success. Demchak had the second lowest average on the team last year at 79.64. Mottice was fourth with an average of 80.61. Carl Lemmon (Jr., Canton, OH/Louisville), Dean Miller (Fr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) and Sam Deighan (Sr., Bedford, OH/ St. Peter Chanel) will also be in the mix. Lemmon averaged 84.64 and Deighan averaged 85.54 a season ago.
