Institutional Review Board (IRB)
At Walsh University, the primary purpose of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to protect the welfare of human subjects used in research. Federal and state regulations mandate that research involving human participants must be reviewed and approved by an IRB and will be subject to continuing review by the IRB. As an institution, Walsh University is committed to fostering the growth of human subjects' research by faculty and students for the greater good of humanity and for the pursuance of knowledge. The President, through the Chief Academic Officer and Institutional Official (IO), grants authority to the IRB to approve of research involving human subjects. However, the Institutional Official, Chief Academic Officer and/or President may disapprove a protocol or research activity that has been approved by the IRB if the protocol is contradictory to the mission of the university.
